Don’t miss the picture gallery from last Sunday at the bottom of this MEMO

It’s BRING YOUR PET TO CHURCH SUNDAY! This coming Sunday, October 4th and the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi. We will have only ONE service of Holy Eucharist at 9 AM, with our annual Blessing of the Animals taking place within the service. As usual, dogs on leashes are welcome, cats and other small animals should be caged or crated. We will designate the transept as an “Animal Free Zone,” and welcome larger animals for a blessing outside at 10:15. Invite your friends – furry, feathered, and otherwise! Special thanks to the Pastoral Care Committee for hosting Coffee Hour.

Readings: Jeremiah 22:13-16, Psalm 148:7-14, Galatians 6:14-18, Matthew 11:25-30

Calling all bakers and jam makers!!! We’re down to the wire on Sandwich Fair prep time! A
pple and/or pumpkin whoopee pies have become one of our now signature offerings!  Small loaves of seasonally appropriate sweet breads such as pumpkin, apple, apple spice, and zucchini are also top sellers! If you’re willing to help with some baking, please call Chris Mills at 603-452-4049 or email at alba4me@yahoo.com. She has a standard recipe to share for the whoopee pies and will provide more details to anyone who calls or emails. Make some now and freeze them, or commit now to baking later and have us count on you! Thanks.

Sign up to tend our booth at the Sandwich Fair October 10th through 12th! It’s fun. It’s easy. We work in teams of three, so you will never be alone! Be an emissary of Saint Andrew’s! (And it gets you into the Sandwich Fair!) There are just a few openings left that we need to cover:
Saturday 12 to 3 (one needed)
Sunday 3 to 6 (three needed)
Monday 9 to 12 (one needed)
Monday 12 to 3 (one needed)
Monday 3 to 6 (one needed)

GRATITUDE UNLOCKS THE FULLNESS OF LIFE! Our fall pledge season is now underway … and already pledges for support of this church for 2016 are being offered! There are a few gourds in our altar cornucopia and a few bottles of oil, symbols of pledges that have been offered as well! Is yours among them? We hope it will be soon.
If you want to remind yourself of the place that Saint Andrew’s has in your life, just scroll down to the left on this web page and click on Thursday MEMO archives. Then work your way through them month by month. I expect you will discover gratitude bubbling up within you – for this place, for these people, for the part Saint Andrew’s has in your life… and ultimately to Almighty God, the giver of all gifts! Consider the poverty you might feel without it. Then allow your prayers of gratitude to guide your pledging.
Let there be light! And there was light! (Finally) The search for replacement lighting in our sanctuary began last spring in response to our plaster fall in the church which led to an almost total redoing of our plaster work and our electrical wiring. Thanks to the Church Insurance Company, most of the repair work, and all the electrical work, including the lights themselves and the long-life bulbs, has been covered by our insurance policy. The committee searched long and hard to find the right fixtures – ones that would be compatible with our circular candelabras and the simplicity of the church as a whole AND would shed considerably more light than our previous fixtures. Each of the eight lamps is capable of producing three times as much light as the old using modern, energy efficient LEDs. They are dimmable as well. Many thanks to Duane for his persistence in getting us to this glowing result!
Food for thought on how to use “the little Blue Box”…
Last Sunday Marty spoke to the importance of the United Thank Offering. These words of explanation are from my friend and colleague the Rev. Sue LeSeur…
It used to be, and still is, the practice in many places for the family, or each member of the family, to keep a little Blue Box handy all year round. Whenever you felt thankful about anything, from rubber-souled shoes on a rainy day or getting an “A” on your geology term paper to seeing your daughter marry a really fine man, you would put a coin or two or three into the little Blue Box. It didn’t matter how many, just that they were all little thank yous for all the blessings of this life. For in-gathering, you’d just bring in your box (or envelope) with coins, sometimes bills, too – for the really big blessings – and place it in the big box or basket with those of others…and then start all over again thanking God for all the blessings of this life.
Don’t have a “Little Blue Box”? Pick one up in the Parish Hall.
See you in church,
Blessings, Heidi+
Last Sunday we said good-bye to a number of our summer friends, including our summer deacon, Kevin Mort, who has now returned to Florida and will be back in June. We also enjoyed our newly-installed lighting, and kicked off our Pledge Season.
