FROM THE RECTOR

We are well on our way to another successful stewardship season. Coming on the heels of such a successful Raise the Roof campaign, this shows how dedicated you are to supporting St. Andrew’s and our ministries and building. I and the Vestry are so grateful for your continuing financial support!

I do not have our latest stewardship numbers but will give you an update on Sunday. For those of you who were not here last Sunday, before pledges that came in that day we were at 38 pledges totaling $110,275. Our goal this year is $155,000. Last year we received 62 pledges, so we have reached roughly two thirds of our goal in both number of pledges and amount pledged.

We always receive pledges well into December, so I am not concerned (yet) that we will not reach our goal. But we have begun work on our 2019 budget, so the sooner we hear from everyone the better. Abundant thanks to those who have already made your pledge for 2019. If you have not yet made yours, please do so as soon as you can.

I also want to thank our wonderful stewardship committee for their creativity and hard work this fall. The brunch last week was delicious, and I can’t wait to see the new banner that Barbara will create after all the pledges are in. We who are many are one indeed!

Thursday, November 8
Ecclesiasticus 44:10 But these also were godly men, whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten.

The woman sitting across from my desk asked, “What does sanctification mean? In the simplest of terms possible, please.” Normally this would not be a difficult question to answer, considering I’m a priest with a few decades of parish experience. What made this situation different was that the parishioner asking the question was 92. My mind flashed, “What answer can I possibly give this dear woman? She has lived two fantastic lives compared with mine.”

I tried hard not to let my worry play out on my face, and I gave my best answer. “It’s the inner working of the Holy Spirit in our day-to-day moments, which over time allows us to move closer to godliness and further away from sin.” She looked me in the eyes and said, “It seems all my life I’ve had lots of questions and am continually looking for answers.”

“Maybe that is what’s gotten you this far,” I said. She just laughed and walked away.

MOVING FORWARD: What’s the one question you want to have answered? How can you bring that to God during your prayer time?
