FROM THE RECTOR
What
beautiful Christmas services we had this year! A big thank you to everyone who
helped to make our services so wonderful:

The
Altar Guild, who came in force on the Saturday before Christmas to polish
everything and green the church, and then set up and cleaned up for all the
services;
·
George,
who helped with the greening;
·
Gretchen,
who picked up the poinsettias;
·
Everyone
who donated poinsettias;
·
Bernice
and the choir for beautiful music at the Christmas Eve services and Lessons and
Carols;
·
Val
and Preston for their beautiful solos, and Val for playing harp;
·
All
the readers, acolytes and Eucharistic ministers;
·
Cathie
and Lisa for leading Lessons and Carols;
·
Deb
for all the Christmas bulletins, and Dale and Bernice for helping fold and
staple them;
·
And
everyone who came to worship with us, from far and near, and participated with
such spirit!
I
had a wonderful visit with all my family in Meridian, Mississippi. It’s always
such fun to get everyone together and catch up, and see how my nieces and
nephews are growing up. Jay, my oldest nephew, and his wife Michelle did a
fantastic job hosting all of us for meals and time to be together. Tori, my
oldest niece, and her fiancée, Hannah, are getting married this summer, and
have asked me to officiate at their wedding. Grace is a sophomore in college,
Peyton is a freshman, Wilson is a junior in high school and Caroline is a
sophomore. They are all thriving in their various schools and blossoming into
late teens and young adulthood.
The
only damper was travel – nearly always a challenge in winter. Freezing rain the
morning I left caused me to miss my bus and then my plane. Two flights turned
into three (Boston to Nashville to Chicago to Birmingham!) and I got to my
hotel at midnight instead of to my nephew’s for dinner. On the way back I made
all my connections but drove the snow-covered Hwy 16 from Portsmouth to
Rochester, where I stayed in a hotel instead of driving all the way home. But
it was well worth it, and I had yesterday to recover!
I
pray your Christmas was filled with love and joy, and that you will be
abundantly blessed in this new year,

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Chunky and noisy,
but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
and instantly
they are acrobats
in the freezing wind.
And now, in the theater of air,

COMMUNITY FOOD CENTER
The Food Pantry thanks you for your contributions throughout the year.
The monthly item for January is shampoo/conditioner.
The Community Food Center (CFC), which operates out of St. Andrew’s Church on Old Route 25 in Tamworth, is looking for new volunteers to help with this important program. The Center is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 am to noon for clients to come in and pick up their food. On each of these days, two volunteers staff the Center and a CFC Board Member is on hand to help and answer questions. Scheduling is done bi-monthly and substitutes provide flexibility for volunteers who have other commitments.

Some practical suggestions are: 1. Treat every man as a brother and every woman as a sister. 2. Share privileges with others. 3. Dispel bigotry and intolerance by sympathy and understanding. 4. Cherish childhood. 5. Replace competition by cooperation. 6. Support democracy by realism in civic affairs. Advocate international equity and friendship. 7. Live the sacrificial, creative life in Christ.
