FROM THE RECTOR

The CDC continues to classify Carroll County in the low range for community spread of Covid This will be updated as needed, but for now masks are optional in church.

I am on vacation June 23 - July 7. I'm going to my sister's for my niece Caroline's High School graduation, and after that am looking forward to some down time at home. Nancy Spencer Smith will preside at the Eucharist both Sundays I'm away and Patti Rau, our St. Warden, is available in an emergency.

Have a good two weeks, and I look forward to seeing you when I return.

Blessings, Caroline

PRAYER FOR UKRAINE

"God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The Summer Day

Who made the world?

Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean -
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down -
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

FROM THE RECTOR

The CDC has classified Carroll County in the low range for community spread of Covid again, but as this is changing so frequently, please check the email I will send out on Saturday for the latest information re: masks.

This Sunday following the 10:00 service we'll have Part 2 of the workshop on creating a Rule of Life. It will be a time to answer questions, talk about the experience and/or share any parts of your Rule of Life you would like to share.

I am sorry to announce that Carrieanne is no longer working as our Parish Administrator. You may see an ad for her replacement on one of the community boards or in the Conway Daily Sun. I'm disappointed that this didn't work out, but we will manage. Until we hire a new administrator Bob will be handling finances and I will publish the Thursday Memo, bulletin and perform other routine office duties except during Thursday, June 23 - Thursday, July 7 when I will be on vacation. During that time we will have a streamlined bulletin and use the Prayer Book for Sunday services, and I expect there will not be a Thursday Memo on June 30 or July 7. I will be available to interview candidates for the position during that time.

Nancy Spencer Smith will preside at the Eucharist both Sundays I'm away and Patti Rau will be available in an emergency.

Blessings, Caroline

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

    TODAY

Today I'm flying low and I'm not

saying a word.

I'm letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,

the bees in the garden rumbling a little,

the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.

And so forth.

But I'm taking the day off.

Quiet as a feather.

I hardly move though really I'm traveling

a terrific distance.

Stillness.

One of the doors into the temple.

FROM THE RECTOR

Thank you all for a great parish meeting and brunch last Sunday. And thank you to all who helped make John’s memorial service such a lovely service. Special thanks to Cathie Lewis for her work on the reception and to Jen, Kaitlyn and Patti for operating the camera and projector.

The CDC has classified Carroll County in the low range for community spread of Covid, so masks are now optional in church. We will wear masks when the community spread range is in the medium or high range. The back section on the Memorial Garden side of the church will continue to be available for those who wish to be in an area where masks are worn. The community spread level will continue to change, so stay tuned.

This Sunday following the 10:00 service I’ll hold a workshop on creating a Rule of Life. A Rule of Life is a tool for helping us live our lives according to our Christian values and our personal core values. It provides us a structure for intentionally living our lives in congruence with these values and can be most helpful. Typical areas covered are spiritual health, mental health, physical health, vocational health and financial health.

A good place to begin is identifying your core values, and we will begin with some exercises to help with this on Sunday morning.

Creating a Rule of Life may require two sessions, so the second session, if needed, will be held after the 10:00 service on Sunday, June 19. I realize this is Father’s Day, but I will be out of town on June 26 and July 3, so this is the best time to hold it.

Blessings, Caroline

READINGS FOR SUNDAY
Sunday June12, 2022
Day of Pentecost - Trinity Sunday
The Collect
Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
First Reading                        Acts 2:1-21
This lesson tells the story of the Holy Spirit filling the apostles and empowering them to share the message of the gospel with people of different languages. Clearly this was a most dramatic moment in the life of the early church, an experience described in terms of wind and fire. From this time forward the mighty works of God done in Jesus will be told to all the peoples of the earth, crossing barriers of language and culture.
The Second Reading     Romans 8:14-17
In this lesson we hear that when we are moved by God's Spirit, we become God's children and heirs with Christ. The spirit makes this experience possible by prompting our lips to call upon God as Father with the same Aramaic word (Abba) that Jesus used. This new relationship means that we are no longer required to be led by baser instincts. Our heritage is life, while we must also learn to share Christ's sufferings.

The Gospel  John 14:8-17 (25-27)

In our gospel Jesus tells his disciples that in him the Father has been revealed, and he promises              the gift of another Counselor, the Spirit of truth, to be with them. The Lord is speaking with his              followers on the night before his death. Soon he will be taken away from them, but all that they              ask the Father will now grant in Jesus' name. As they continue to love Jesus and keep his                      commands, they will realize the indwelling Spirit who will take Jesus' place in their midst.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

When the Spirit of truth comes,
           she will guide you into all the truth;
for she will not speak on her own,
but will speak whatever she hears,
and she will declare to you the things that are to come.

                           —John 16.13

Spirit is not some ghost floating around
but God, the energy of love itself,
in you.
You will not hear voices in the air
telling you secrets.
You will learn to attend to the Witness
who is there within you,
the Openness who knows the truth,
the Presence who gives voice to what is loving.
You will come to know what you know,
to truly see what you see and hear what you hear,
and walk on that path.
She will guide you, and day by day
you will learn to listen.
