-                 READINGS FOR SUNDAY               -

Sunday, July 2nd
Genesis 22:1-14
Psalm 13
Romans 6:12-23
Matthew 10:40-42

-            FROM THE INTERIM RECTOR           -

We had such a gorgeous day for the Parish Picnic! Temperature in the 70’s, low humidity, sunshine and a breeze (sometimes a wind!). I’m told the water wasn’t cold, thought I didn’t sample it. We filled the pavilion, enticed a few guests to join us, and celebrated the Eucharist in the beauty of God’s creation. It was perfect, made so by many hands and a joyful spirit of camaraderie and willingness to pitch in and do what needed to be done. Abundant thanks to so many of you:

Sammie, who brought everything we needed for the service, neatly packed into two manageable boxes, and Patti and Claudia who helped set up;

Gretchen, who brought the flowers;

Tom and George, our cooks, who also brought grills, kitchen utensils, and more;

Hettie, who bought the meats and drinks;

Carol, who rounded up coolers and bought ice and condiments;

David, who handled the logistics of reserving the pavilion;

The choir, who led our music, and Preston on his drum;

And to everyone who brought delicious side dishes!

Please enjoy the pictures below in the Gallery

Love
When I’m hurting or afraid or anxious, it can be hard to go to sleep. So by reviewing the day, I remember I was caught, I was loved. I can go to sleep, trusting for gifts of love tomorrow. “For what am I most thankful today? When was I most fully alive? How did I receive love? How did I give love?”

This practice of prayer, from the examen of Saint Ignatius, helps many go to sleep.

-     PARISH EUCHARIST & PICNIC AT WHITE LAKE     -

Our Annual All-Parish Picnic at White Lake State Park will be held June 25th at 10:30 AM, a week from today. A regular service of Holy Eucharist will also be held as usual at the church at 8 AM. Our event will be held rain or shine since the pavilion is under cover. This has proved to be a fun community event, so feel free to invite friends and family members who might not regularly join you for church. The worship service will begin at about 10:30 (not our regular 10:00), and will be followed by the picnic. You are free to stay and enjoy the park until park closing time.
     When you come through the “check-in gate” just tell them you are there for Saint Andrew’s Picnic, then proceed to the pavilion. Set-up will be taking place from 9:00 on, so feel free to arrive early to drop off your food and get settled. The site is wheelchair accessible, including the bathrooms. Burgers, hotdogs, buns, and beverages will be provided, but you are invited to bring something for the food table: chips, salads, or dessert. The swimming at White Lake is excellent and good for children as well as adults; the water warms up early. Bring your kayak if you want to enjoy the whole late.
     The official amount that the church will pay for pavilion use is $5 per person, BUT WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR THE EVENT. If you want to come, come! If you would like to help subsidize the cost to the church, we welcome your contribution, large or small. (Checks can be made out to St. Andrew’s with a memo: for parish picnic.)
 What to bring:
A food table contribution of chips, salad, or dessert, informal clothing suitable to the weather, including an extra layer in case it gets chilly
Optional:
A comfortable portable chair (The pavilion has only backless picnic tables.)
Swim suit and towel (if you want), Sunscreen, Kayak or swim toys
Directions from the south: The White Lake State Park entrance is on the left about a three-minute drive north from the West Ossipee intersection of Route 25 W and Rte 16. (Think McDonald’s, then head north toward Conway.)
Directions from the north: It is on the right about 3.5 miles south from Chocorua Village.

Funeral planning worksheets
I’ve recently had requests for the form for funeral planning, and have made an updated version. It is now available for anyone who is interested in planning ahead. You may wonder how important this is and if you should fill one out. My answer to anyone who asks me about this is that families are always glad when this has been done. It takes away a portion of the stress one feels when a loved one dies and the family is happy to know that they are following their loved one’s wishes for the service.
What’s involved? There are a few questions relating to your preference for the disposition of your body:
·         Whether you wish to be cremated or embalmed
·         Where you wish to be buried
·         Whether you’ve made arrangements with a funeral home.
The rest of the questions have to do with the service itself:
·         Whether you wish to have Communion
·         Whether you prefer Rite I (Elizabethan language) or Rite II (contemporary language)
·         Scripture readings you would prefer
·         Music preferences
·         If there are people you’d like to participate (readers, ushers, remarks, etc.)

Choices of Scripture readings as listed in The Book of Common Prayer and the texts are available in a separate document, as are hymn suggestions.

This fall I will plan to have a session on funeral planning for anyone who is interested. But in the meantime, these materials are available upon request.

Please sign up under the place, date, and time that is most convenient for you.

A Prayer attributed to St. Francis

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive; it is
in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

-                 LAST SUNDAY               -

Sammie Wakefield presented a slide show on her Eleanore’s Project experience.  See the Picture gallery below for pictures from last Sunday.

-            FROM THE INTERIM RECTOR           -

I will be away this weekend, visiting my sister in Westminster, MD. She has two daughters, Grace, who is 17, and Caroline, who is 13. Caroline is a dancer - she started when she was 5 or 6, and for the last few years has been dancing every day after school. Her end of year dance recital is this weekend, which is the reason for my visit. The last time I saw her dance was 4 or 5 years ago, so I know I will see a whole different dancer! Can't wait! Here she is showing off her moves.
Caroline
Florence adopted both her girls from China, and took me with her on both trips (I was in charge of pictures and videos, among other things). As a result I have an especially close relationship with both girls, and see them as often as I can. Last time we were together was in Mexico for Thanksgiving, so I’m overdue a visit.
Grace
I am away Thursday – Sunday. In the event of a pastoral emergency, please contact our Senior Warden, Carol Tubman, at 603-651-8230.

Comings and Goings
Please welcome the Rev. Dan Weir, who will lead our services on Sunday. He is a retired priest from Intervale, who regularly assists at Christ Church, North Conway. Please thank Tom Ayling for filling in as our organist while Bunny was recovering from shoulder surgery. Sunday will be his last Sunday with us (at least for now). And, please join me in welcoming back the Rev. Deacon Kevin Mort, who returns to us on Sunday.

The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.
