Services for this coming Sunday, June 29th, The Third Sunday after Pentecost, will be services of Morning Prayer at 8 and 10 am.

"We had a wonderful gathering of regulars and friends at our Second Annual All-Parish Picnic at White Lake park last Sunday. Hearty thanks to Barbara, Carol, and David for their overall planning, to grill chefs George Pender and Vic DeGroot, to Duane for leading the choir, to Sammie and Lisa for taking care of all the sacristan details, and to everyone who attended for your wonderful spirit, and to Almighty God and Mother Nature for providing the perfect weather.
The one surprise is that we don't have many photos to show!

So.... Did anyone get any good pictures at the picnic? Please email them to Deb at office@standrewsinthevalley.org. We'd love to have them for next week's MEMO."
Heidi and Duane are on vacation and will be returning on Wednesday, July 2nd. They will be celebrating her father’s life (He died in January at 91), scattering his ashes near his home of 50 years on Martha’s Vineyard, and spending some family time in Woods Hole. If you should need pastoral assistance while I’m away, please contact the office, or Sr. Warden, Carol Tubman at 539-2780 or Jr. Warden, Gretchen Behr-Svendsen at 323-7459.

This coming Sunday, June 22nd, is our All-Parish Picnic at the Pavilion at White Lake State Park! Don’t miss it!

The 8:00 service will be held as usual at the church. The later service will begin at 10:30 , but we encourage you to arrive early so that you can get settled. The weather forecast for Sunday is very favorable. This is an opportunity to worship outdoors amidst the beauty of the natural world and in the presence of wider community. This year we have posted invitations on the campground bulletin boards, hoping others will join us. Our liturgy will celebrate the beauty of creation and our sacred trust of care for it. We will worship with song, prayer, and silence, make eucharist together, followed by the picnic and social and recreation time. Come, bring some food to share, and take part in the joy  and delight in being together in this beautiful setting!
Directions and important detail follow:
Spread the word and invite your friends and family. Bring your swimsuit and beach toys! The location is fully wheel-chair accessible, including rest rooms.  Stay as long as you want. (Regular admission to the park is $5/adult.)
We’ll be there rain or shine since the pavilion provides good protection from the weather!
Where is it?  Headed north on rte 16 (toward Conway) from the intersection of rte 25 (at Yankee Smokehouse), it is about 1.5 miles to the entrance which will be on your left (west). Dunkin’ Donuts, on the right, is just before it. When you get to the entrance booth, just tell them you are there for St. Andrew’s Church picnic and your fee will be waived.  Follow the main road in to the lake. The pavilion is a bit to the right once you reach the parking area. If you want to look at a map, here it is. (The pavilion is marked helter.”)

What to bring:
  • Chips, salad, or dessert. (Hamburgers, hotdogs, and veggie burgers – and the grills to grill them on – will be supplied.
  • Bring your own plates and tableware if you’d like to live your eco-friendly values (though some will be available.
  • Bring your swimsuit, towel, and water toys. The water is shallow and is reported to be warming up nicely. There are changing facilities available.
  • Bring your kayak if you fancy getting out into the center of the lake. (The swimming area is roped off.)
  • Bring a portable chair if you are uncomfortable sitting on a bench, or are not a “beach sitter.”
                             See you there!
Duane and I will be leaving for vacation after the picnic and returning on Wednesday, July 2nd. We will be celebrating my father’s life (He died in January at 91), scattering his ashes near his home of 50 years on Martha’s Vineyard, and spending some family time in Woods Hole. If you should need pastoral assistance while I’m away, please contact the office, or Sr. Warden, Carol Tubman at 539-2780 or Jr. Warden, Gretchen Behr-Svendsen at 323-7459.
We would like to continue “First Wednesdays,” our monthly 5:30 to 7:00 soup and salad supper with a reading, and discussion, over the summer, but I can’t commit to the evening of July 2nd, since we will just be returning to town. We set this up to be non-rector dependent! If you would like to gather, please email me and I can easily coordinate by email. We will need a volunteer to select a suitable and fascinating reading that will lead to interesting conversation, as well volunteers to bring bread, salad, summer soup, and someone with a willingness to guide the conversation! Those of us who have participated to date have found it a nurturing and thought-provoking opportunity to share a meal and enjoy the fellowship of community.
Women’s Lunch Bunch will meet next on July 9 at noon at the Mountain View Restaurant in Center Ossipee. Two weeks ago we took delight in helping Dale celebrate her birthday. Summer friends are warmly welcome! The food is delicious, the prices very reasonable.
And mark your calendars for our Lobster and Steak dinner on Friday, August 1st. Tickets for that return event will be available in early July.

This splendid peony was given in loving memory of Alison Hagerup, Marge and Bill's daughter, in 2008. It gets more beautiful every year. When you see it, I hope you will lift up prayers of love and gratitude. Our memorial garden is a wonderfully special place. When was the last time you paused in the shade of the birch tree and allowed yourself just to be?
Blessed Midsummer to All!
(The Solistice and Saint John’s Day … for John the Baptist, whose day is June 24)
See you at Saint Andrew’s-at-the- Lake!

Food for thought as we live our lives, growing in the Spirit…
from Brother Curtis, SSJE
Encouragement is to tenderly name the truth about another person: that they are not an accident, that they are not abjectly inadequate, that they are not forgotten but rather remembered. This is the grace of encouragement.
See you in church!
Blessings, Heidi+

Sunday, June 22! You won’t want to miss Our Second Annual All-Parish Picnic at White Lake State Park. Once again we have reserved the Pavilion, providing accessible, protected outdoor space to celebrate the eucharist and enjoy the pleasure of each other’s company. We will gather at 10:30 for our informal eucharist; that will be followed by the picnic and social and recreation time! Hamburgers, hotdogs, and veggie burgers – and the grills to grill them on – will be supplied. We ask you to bring salad, chips, beverages, or desserts. The lake will be available for swimming and kayaking. The lake is shallow for quite a distance, so it will warm up quickly and will not pose deep-water risks for young ones. The pavilion and the rest rooms are wheel chair accessible, so our hope is that it will be a fun, multi-generational gathering for everyone. Feel free to invite your friends.

Welcome, Dan Micciulla, our newest acolyte – Well, new to us. Dan has many years’ experience as a server, lector, eucharistic minister in his previous church. We always welcome new members to our acolyte and lector team. Talk to Heidi or Lisa if you’re interested. And, no, you don’t have to shave your head!

Women’s Lunch bunch will be meeting this coming Wednesday, June 11, at noon at the Depot Restaurant in Center Ossipee. Join us for good food at very reasonable prices with a private dining room and the wonderful companionship of the women of the parish. If you need a ride or directions, give Dale Appleton a call at 539-3761.

Thank you. We encourage flowers to be given in memory, in honor of or in thanksgiving.  If you do not have garden flowers and would like flowers to be ordered ($20), please note that accordingly on the flower chart and submission envelope.

Food for thought as we approach the unleashing of the flames of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost – that wild, God-filled energy that compelled the disciples out into the world to proclaim and be the Good News – crossing cultural boundaries of language and race – in ways unique to each!

Light the flame of your imagination. Do not be confined to the narrow vision of cautious minds, but fling wide the doors of your own curiosity. Trust your creative spirit, let it out of the sheltered confines of polite spirituality, allow it to run free into the distant fields of wonder. You were born to be a thinker, a maker, a dreamer, a fashioner of what has never been seen before. You have had this talent since childhood and you know it. You grew up living both here and in places far beyond, places where the very light is different, where music unknown calls the vagabond soul to wander. Take the risk. Be yourself. And watch the stars start to move.

See you in church!
