August 16, 2012

This Sunday, the 19th of August, The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost, there will be two services at 8 and 10 a.m., with coffee hour following. We hope you'll join us for worship and fellowship.

Readings for this Sunday: 1 Kings 2:10-12; 3:3-14; Psalm 111; Ephesians 5:15-20; John 6:51-58.

The reconstruction of our ramp entrance is now under way!!!  The entry is presently inaccessible. Instead, you will need to walk across the lawn behind the Parish Hall and enter through the east door which will be kept open when events, including office hours, are taking place. If walking is difficult for you, a vehicle may drive in at the east end of the building, passing the Prince Room chimney, giving you easy access to the door. Under no circumstances is anyone to drive around the rear of the Parish Hall, which would entail going over our septic tank which might not support the weight of a vehicle!!! If you have a key to the building and are here at off hours, you will need to use the main front door of the church.

In spite of the rain the Backyard Barbecue Bluegrass Bash was a success! Great food and entertainment was enjoyed by all in attendance.  Thank you to ALL who helped with setup, cooking, and a great job on clean up (an extra thank you from Debra).

Our Annual Rummage Sale is next week: Friday Aug. 24th, 10am-4pm and Saturday Aug. 25th, 10am-1pm.  Diane Lombardi is the chairperson. We will be receiving contributions beginning on Tuesday, August 21st. Please remember: everything should be clean and in good condition. Clothing and fabric household goods only (linens, towels, curtains, etc.) Sign up sheets are in the Parish Hall to assist with sorting and sale days.

Calling all lovers of homemade jams, jellies, pickles, etc. Sandwich Fair is coming up the first weekend of October. Any person who wishes to create their own delicacies for sale, please contact Gretchen, Chris or Carol with questions and requests for labels. For any person who loves to consume home made canned goods, consider saving you empty jars for re-use by one of us. Also, If you frequent yard sales and happen to see two piece 8 or 16oz canning jars, grab them. (new jars run from $8-$12/case of twelve) We will reimburse you.

Icon of the Transfiguration of Our Lord

This Sunday, the 5th of August, the Transfiguration of our Lord and the 85th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church, there will be one service at 9 a.m., with coffee hour following. We hope you'll join us for worship and fellowship as we give thanks for the consecration of our new bishop and for the 85 years of Saint Andrew’s-in-the-Valley!.

Readings for this Sunday: Exodus 34:29-35, Psalm 99, 2 Peter 1:13-21, Luke 9:28-36.

Morning Prayer every Wednesday at 9 am.

The consecration, on your computer: A live video “broadcast” of the consecration of our new bishop will be available over the internet, for parish or home viewing.  If you can watch a YouTube video on your computer, you can probably receive it. Access to the video stream will be available at  http://search.nhepiscopal.org/index.php/consecration. Alternatively, just go to nhepiscopal.org, click on the Consecration title on the right, and that will take you directly to the right page. The top box on that page will be the video link by 10:45 on Saturday. The Program Booklet will also be available there.

The Consecration begins at 11 AM this Saturday, August 4th. The video coverage is expected to begin with the preludes at 10:45.

Rita Rouner's family is inviting all St. Andrew's friends who would like to come to a committal service for Rita this coming Sunday, at 3.p.m. at Rita's and Leroy's home, 223 Maple Ridge Road in North Sandwich.  Rita's ashes will be buried in the old cemetery on the property and a reception will follow at the house.

Women’s Lunch Bunch will meet on Wed, August 8th at Noon at the Mtn View Station Restaurant in Center Ossipee. Please contact Dale Appleton if you have questions.

Announcing our next meal event:  On Friday of next week, August 10th. We will be hosting a Backyard Barbecue Bluegrass Bash!  Insulation work is now underway! There will be absolutely NO ACCESS to the building from Monday, 7am until Tuesday, 10am.  The foam insulation needs to harden before it’s ok to come into the building.

Food for thought on Choice, from Brother David Vryhof of SSJE…

Every time we make a choice we are turning some deep and inner part of ourselves into something a little different than it was before. With all our innumerable choices, throughout the whole of our lives we are slowly turning this deep and inner part of ourselves into something that is in harmony with God and with God’s purposes in the world, or into something that is contrary to them. Each of us at each moment is progressing one way or the other.

See you in church! Blessings,

Heidi+
