River of Life: Connecticut River
Pilgrimage, 2017
40-days of Pilgrimage from
May 31 to July 9, 2017

This is a spiritual journey of renewal, restoration, and reconciliation, shaped by the Christian tradition around a series of activities along the Connecticut River, from the Source to the Sea.

A core group of “river pilgrims” will journey the full length of the river, being joined by “daily pilgrims” as they traverse individual stretches, and by “pilgrims in prayer” for those who aren’t able to paddle along or join in events but want to participate in the 40-day spiritual practices that correspond with the Pilgrimage dates.

Join in as a Pilgrim in Prayer

If you aren’t able to find your way to a local body of water or the Connecticut River to paddle, don’t worry…you can still participate in the 40-day Pilgrimage as a “Pilgrim in Prayer” and be with us in spirit from your home, your place of worship, or a chosen spot outside in nature.
From May 31 to July 9, pilgrims on the Connecticut River will share in a rhythm of morning, midday, and evening prayer using the daily readings and reflections outlined in the River of Life Prayer Book. With your own River of Life Prayer Book, you can join us in this 40 days of prayer and reflect on the same Scripture readings, songs, prayers, and lessons that will be read and sung on the river. The River of life Prayer book also contains several articles, creation-centered practices, and other resources to accompany you on your pilgrimage at home.
For more information, to download a prayer book, or to order a copy of the prayer book, visit http://kairosearth.org/river/pilgrim-in-prayer/

DIGITAL PROJECTOR NEEDED

Do you have a digital projector we could borrow on Sunday morning, June 4? The one that has been used previously belonged to Heidi and Duane, so we no longer have access to one. Sammie Wakefield will be giving a presentation on Eleanore’s Project and some recent changes, and she hopes to be able to show us pictures.
-           NEWS FROM DEACON KEVIN MORT     -

I want to thank the many people who sent a birthday card to my son, Zach, who is deployed, boots on the ground. He cannot tell me where he is, but we can guess. He was surprised to get the many cards and he really appreciated receiving them.

I will be returning to New Hampshire on June 7th with my youngest son and will be back to St Andrew's on June 11th. I am looking forward to serving there again and seeing my New Hampshire family when I return. Andrew has not been to our home there and I know he is looking forward to meeting you all. We are hoping to do some fishing when we are up there so if anyone has a boat or dock that we can go fishing from, please let me know. Thanks.

I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
Deacon Kevin Mort

-                    ELEANORE’S PROJECT                -

For the past eleven years Saint Andrews has helped to sponsor the work of Eleanore's Project. It is a small family run NGO that supplies specialty wheelchairs and education programs about postural care for children with physical disabilities in less resourced areas. One of our parishioners, Sammie Wakefield returned in April from three weeks in Peru where she participated in wheelchair clinics and training programs.  On Sunday June 4 after the 9:00 am service she will show slides and talk about her experiences and how they are working toward a sustainable program.

-                   SEARCH COMMITTEE                  -
A Request from the Search Committee
As we continue with our fact gathering for our parish profile, we have mentioned at our Sunday services that we would be having small informal group discussions so that parishioners could continue to discuss our parish, and our search for a new rector. This coming Sunday, in the parish hall, there will be an easel with the names and addresses of parishioners who have agreed to host these discussions. Please sign up under the place, date, and time that is most convenient for you.
Your thoughts and opinions are very important in our search process, so we would like as many of you as possible to attend one of these sessions
If you have any questions, please contact any search committee member.

From Presiding Bishop Michael Curry:
“Let us pause and pray and remember the victims of the tragedy in Manchester, England – those who lost their lives, those whose lives will forever be changed.

‘Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.’” ~ From Compline, The Book of Common Prayer

The Rev. Canon Hannah Anderson Visits this Sunday
Earlier this week the Wardens, Treasurer, Search Committee Co-Chairs and I spoke with the Rev. Canon Hannah Anderson via a conference call, and talked about what we would like for her to cover when she meets with us on Sunday.  We had a good conversation that helped all of us understand better what choices we have as move toward calling a new rector. I am confident that you will find the same to be true after Hannah’s presentation Sunday morning, so please attend if at all possible.
The Search Committee wants and needs your input as information is gathered for the Parish Profile. It will be the primary document available for rector candidates to learn about St. Andrew's. Now is the time to make your wishes, hopes and desires about our next Rector known. There are several opportunities for you to give your input:
·         Sunday's meeting with Hannah will give you valuable information for the small group house gatherings the Search Committee will soon be holding.
·         Stay tuned for information about the upcoming house gatherings, and be sure to attend.
·         If you haven’t yet completed the parish survey prepared by the Search Committee, please do that ASAP!
The Search Committee and Vestry alike encourage you to participate actively in all of these opportunities so that your voice may be heard.
If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to attend the parish meeting with Hannah this Sunday, and speak to members of the Search Committee and/or Vestry at any time.
Faithfully,
Caroline

-            FROM THE INTERIM RECTOR           -

The Rev. Canon Hannah Anderson Here on May 21

At our last meeting the Vestry had a discussion about clergy salary and benefits, whether we will be able to afford a rector who needs family coverage, and if we can confidently advertise the position as full time. If the person called needs family insurance, it will be a real challenge for our budget, as the cost is so much greater for a family than for a single person. We know that most parishioners have only a general awareness of the cost of benefits for a rector, and wanted to find a way to both give you more information and receive your input. We thought that Hannah could best lead the parish in this discussion, and after consulting with the Search Committee Co-Chairs, I invited her to meet with us on a Sunday morning. The Search Committee felt that it would be important to have this discussion prior to the house meetings that they plan to hold in late May and the first part of June, so we are all pleased that Hannah can be with us on May 21.

Because this will be such an important discussion, we also decided to have only one service, at 9:00, on May 21. This will allow us to gather together for worship, take the time we need for this conversation, and still be able to go home by noon.

And, since the pot luck coffee hour on Easter was such a success, we will have another one on the 21st. Bring your favorite treat!

Please mark your calendars and join us for this important parish discussion.

A Prayer for the End of the Day

Lord, it is night.

The night is for stillness.
Let us be still in the presence of God.

It is night after a long day.
What has been done has been done;
what has not been done has not been done;
let it be.

The night is dark.
Let our fears of the darkness of the world and of our own lives
rest in you.

The night is quiet.
Let the quietness of your peace enfold us,
all dear to us,
and all who have no peace.

The night heralds the dawn.
Let us look expectantly to a new day,
new joys,
new possibilities.

In your name we pray.
Amen.
