FROM THE RECTOR
Abundant Thanks to…
Everyone who
contributed to the beauty and depth of the Holy Week and Easter services this
year! I am grateful to so many people this Easter week, especially:
- Deb, for her
usual masterful creation of the bulletins for Holy Week and Easter Day, while
juggling all of her regular weekly tasks.
- Sammie and
members of the Altar Guild, for setting up for each service, for the hours of
cleaning and polishing on Saturday morning, and for magically transforming the
church from the bareness of the stripped altar to the glory of Easter.
- Gretchen,
for taking care of getting the palms and Easter flowers, and for organizing
Coffee Hour on Easter morning
- Bunny and
the Choir, for the beautiful music, and Ann Cady for chanting on Maundy
Thursday.
- Val, for
leading the music on Maundy Thursday with her beautiful harp accompaniment, and
for chanting the Exultet at the Vigil. Well done, Val!
- All the
readers, who read with such expression and meaning, especially the dramatic
readings of the Passion on Palm Sunday and Good Friday, and the Vigil readings.
- All the
ushers, acolytes, lectors and Eucharistic ministers.
- Ellie and
Nancy, for filling roles as Assisting Priests in all our liturgies, especially
when I was sick!
As you all
know, I will be off until April 28. 8:00 and 10:00 Eucharists will be covered
by the Rev. Randy Dales on April 8 and by the Rev. Nancy Spencer Smith on April
22. Our Worship Leaders will lead Morning Prayer at both services on April 15.
If you have a
pastoral emergency during my absence, please contact Deb during regular office
hours, or Carol Tubman after hours.
Easter
blessings and joy,
Caroline
Joys…
I am happy to
announce that Betsy Hess’ Ordination to the Priesthood will be held at St.
Barnabas, Berlin, on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 6:00 pm. Congratulations,
Betsy!!!
and Sorrows…
I am sorry to
share the sad news that Phil Wallick, a St. Andrew’s summer member, died last
week following a fall. Please keep Joan and their children in your prayers as
they grieve his sudden death. Phil’s service will be held at St. Andrew’s this
summer. We will share the date and time when we know them. Phil was a longtime
summer member, and only recently completed a term on the St. Andrew’s Vestry. He
will be sorely missed.
Many of you
know that Deb’s father was ill, and that she had a wonderful visit with him and
her mother at the beginning of March. Her father, Alton Sherwood, died on March
24. Please keep Deb, her mother, Beverly, and their family in your prayers as
they grieve his death and as Beverly prepares to move back to Maine.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR
TODAY
THURSDAY, April 5, 2018
Thursday in Easter Week
Acts 2:42 They
devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of
bread and the prayers.
Growing up, I heard
my pastor remind the faithful not to forsake the communal nature of our
Christian faith. I am struck by how many times Christian community has been
pivotal in helping me to develop and grow. The faith communities that formed me
have each given me special gifts that continue to shape who I am and who I am
becoming.
The body of Christ is
just that—born of water, nurtured by bread and wine, and empowered by the
Spirit. It is impossible to be a Christian alone. We are profoundly bound by
the connective tissue of sacramental life. Being a member of this kind of
community is challenging, presenting us with many opportunities for formation,
reflection, discernment, patience, and ministry. The disciples are onto
something: To follow Christ is to enter the urgency and love of the apostolic
community and to submit to a lifelong and life-wide process of growing into the
full stature of the One who first loved us.
MOVING FORWARD: What are some ways your
faith community has helped form your identity as a follower of Jesus? Share
them by using #ForwardDayByDay.
