Winter Weather Advisory!!!
Winter Weather Advisory!!! If the weather is questionable on a Sunday morning please call the church before you leave home to check for schedule changes. If a storm comes in on Saturday evening or Sunday, I will make a judgment by 7:00 AM about whether to hold or cancel services. Cancellations will posted on WMUR 9 and the church phone message will also reflect any cancellations. PLEASE do not travel if it feels unsafe to you. Enjoy a Sabbath morning at home and remember St. Andrew’s in your prayers.

Meeting this Sunday: Looking Ahead
This Sunday after the 9:00 service we will hold
our follow up meeting to the discussion we began at the Annual Meeting. At that
time we looked back at 2018 and shared what we felt were highlights of the
year. This picture captured the summary we put on newsprint.
On Sunday we will shift out focus to what we hope
for in 2019 and beyond, and share our ideas, hopes and dreams. In the next few
days think about what we do well and where we face challenges. What would make
us an even more vibrant parish? We will spend about an hour first talking in
small groups and then sharing with the whole group.
So far the weather looks good for Sunday morning,
so please plan to attend!

LENTEN RESOURCES
As we approach Lent
I’d like to share a variety of resources to accompany your Lenten journey. Two
booklets are available in the Parish Hall: “The Poetry of Lent: A Lenten
Companion to Mary Oliver's Devotions”, which we will use for our group study,
and the Episcopal Relief and Development Lenten reflection booklet,
If you who would like
to participate in our group study, “The
Poetry of Lent: A Lenten Companion to Mary Oliver's Devotions”, please let me
know your preference for a meeting time via email at rectorsaitv@gmail.com.
The choices are:
Wednesday evening
beginning with a light soup and salad supper at 5:30 or 6:00, followed by
discussion for an hour. If you prefer an evening offering, please let me know
which time is better for you.
Wednesday morning at
10:30
Wednesday afternoon
at 1:30
I will have my copy
of Mary Oliver’s book, Devotions, for your perusal. Devotions is available from
Amazon for $20.40, or you may read the poems online.
Episcopal Relief and
Development 2019 Lenten Meditations
This booklet
encourages readers to actively seek the holy every day during Lent by
reflecting on God’s call, their own lives and how they can live out their
Baptismal Covenant by healing a hurting world.
Lent
Madness 2019 The Tenth Annual Saintly Smackdown!
With its unique blend
of competition, learning, and humor, Lent Madness allows participants to be
inspired by the ways in which God has worked through the lives of saintly souls
across generations and cultures. Throughout Lent, thirty-two saints will do
battle to win the coveted Golden Halo. Based loosely on the NCAA basketball
tournament of a similar name, this online devotion pits saints against one
another in a bracket as voters choose their favorites throughout this
penitential season.
Here’s how to participate:
on the weekdays of Lent, information is posted at www.lentmadness.org about two different
saints. Each pairing remains open for 24 hours as participants read about and
then vote to determine which saint moves on to the next round. Sixteen saints
make it to the Round of the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Round of the
Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and
the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. Click on the link above to sign
up for a daily email with information about each saint. And check the door by
the kitchen for the full sized poster

SHROVE TUESDAY
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
How Would You Live Then?
What if a hundred
rose-breasted grosbeaks
flew in circles around your head? What if
the mockingbird came
into the house with you and
became your advisor? What if
the bees filled your
walls with honey and all
needed to do was ask them and they would
fill
the bowl? What if the
brook slid down hill just
past your bedroom window so you could listen
to its slow prayers
as you fell asleep? What if
the stars bean to shout their names, or to
run
this way and that way
above the clouds? What if
you painted a picture of a tree, and the
leaves
began to rustle, and
a bird cheerfully sang
from its painted branches? What if you
suddenly saw
that the silver of
water was brighter than the silver
of money? What if you finally saw
that the sunflowers,
turning toward the sun all day
and every day – who knows how, but they do
it – were
more precious, more
meaningful than gold?

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY
THURSDAY February 28, 2019
Matthew 5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.
Among the many difficult tasks facing medical doctors is talking with patients about changes they need to make in order to become healthier. We do not like being told what to do, and we are easily offended. But good doctors care more about healing than they do about being liked.
Some notable Christians throughout the centuries have taken this teaching quite literally, and mortification of the flesh has been alternately practiced and prohibited by a wide variety of clerics, theologians, and regular folk. Given that we do not see any self-dismemberment among Jesus’ closest followers, I don’t think we are called to do the same. But Jesus knows what he is doing when he uses strong language, and we would be foolish to ignore this warning.
