My apologies to those of you who signed into Zoom last Sunday for the service. After it was over we discovered the problem, so there’s one more mistake we won’t make again! We have simplified some of our setup, and are hoping to run a cable from the sound system to the computer soon, to improve sound quality on Zoom. Please bear with us as we work toward that. I understand that a custom cable will likely be required, so it may take a bit longer than other orders.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to
make June and Brian’s services so beautiful and meaningful, and to all who
attended. The families so appreciate your presence and support.
I will be on vacation July 22-28. I’m thrilled to be officiating at my niece’s
marriage in Birmingham, AL on July 24, and looking forward to seeing all of my
family. It’s been over two years since I’ve seen some of them, and it will be
my first time to see my 9 month old great niece! Once again, please contact Deb
in the office if you need anything (Office hours Tuesday: 9:00 – 12:00;
Wednesday and Thursday: 1:00-5:00). In the event of a pastoral emergency please
contact Patti Rau.
Nancy Spencer-Smith will preside
at the Eucharist at 8:00 and 10:00 on July 25. Thank you, Nancy!
Looking ahead…. Mark your calendars! On Sunday,
August 1 we will celebrate St. Andrew’s 94th anniversary. During the usual
sermon time we will share our thoughts on what we learned about church during
the pandemic and our recent reopening for in-person services. What did you miss
while our services were on Zoom? Now that many of us are back in church, what
do you appreciate? Are there things you used to take for granted that have new
meaning now? What are you most grateful for? Please write down your thoughts on
one or more of these questions, keeping it to 50 words of less so that everyone
who wishes can share at the service
Being the first Sunday of the month, this will be a 9:00 service, followed by a parish brunch. Haven’t you missed our parish meals? And Sammie’s cheese grits? (She will make it for this occasion!)
Blessings, Caroline

The Collect
Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
First Lesson 2 Samuel 7:1-14a
In our Hebrew Bible lesson the enemies of David have been subdued and David turns his thoughts to building a temple to the Lord. Through the prophet Nathan, God declares to David that the construction of an earthly temple is not among the purposes for which God has anointed David. God has chosen David from among the lowly, a mere shepherd boy, and given him victory over his enemies. Now God will make of David a great house, securing the hopes of the people of Israel. David’s throne shall be established forever, the prophet declares.
Psalm 89:20-37
The Lord is praised for faithful love and mighty justice. As a Father, God promises to the anointed servant David an everlasting kingdom.
The Second Lesson Ephesians 2:11-22
This passage is a celebration of the new community of a unified humanity which God has formed and built up through Christ Jesus. Before this time Gentiles lived a life distant from God and the hope of God’s promises. Now through the sacrifice of Christ, the power of the law to separate and the wall of hostility are broken down. Former strangers have found peace and become fellow citizens who share in the Lord’s spiritual temple.
The Gospel Mark 6:30-34, 53-56
In our gospel lesson the apostles return from their first mission and are summoned away by Jesus to a place of solitude and restoration. There is such urgent need among the people, however, that Jesus and his disciples are met by large crowds everywhere they go. Jesus is a compassionate shepherd and responds to the need of the multitude in teaching and healing, and all who come to him find solace.
