FROM THE RECTOR
A transition team has been formed, made up of Pat Adams, Christi Humphrey, Tina Quinn, Patti Rau, Sammie Wakefield and me. Bob Seston will be available to consult with us when we have financial questions. Our purpose is to get materials about St. Andrew's ready for online publication, redo our website, identify where volunteers will be needed when I switch to half time on December 1, and identify any additional things the parish needs to do for the upcoming transition. The team has met twice and is hard at work! Your input at our last parish meeting has been invaluable for answering the four questions for one of the online publications. In order to keep you up to date on our progress and any additional information from the Diocese, we will hold monthly parish meetings. These will be on the first Sunday of each month, so the next parish meeting will be on November 6. Kathy Bunker volunteered to spread news in the local exchanges at the last parish meeting, and has already publicized the Blessing of the Animals and the Pie Sale. Thank you, Kathy!
A parish-wide Book Study on Part-Time is Plenty, by G. Jeffrey MacDonald will begins Sunday, October 9 following the 10:00 service and coffee hour. We'll meet every week for six weeks, as there are six chapters in the book. Dates are October 9, 16, 23, and 30, November 13 and 20.
I hope you will take part in this important book study as we prepare for the possibility of a part-time rector or Priest-in-Charge. This is only a possibility, not definitive, but we need to be prepared just in case.
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will preach at the Eucharist and join Bishop Rob in a Panel Discussion on Saturday, November 5, at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Please register for the November 5 event at this link: https://conta.cc/3C8ci2B
Registration closes on Friday, October 21.

JOIN US FOLLOWING THE SERVICE FOR
The First Reading 2 Kings 5:1-3, 7-15c
Our first reading is the story of the cure of Naaman from his leprosy. Naaman, commander of the army of Syria, learns there is a prophet in Israel who might bring about his healing. The king of Israel regards the request for help as a trick in a plot to cause a quarrel. Naaman himself at first refuses to trust in what the prophet Elisha tells him to do, but then he is made clean and knows there is no God on earth except in Israel.
Psalm Psalm 111
The Second Reading 2 Timothy 2:8-15
In this reading Paul bids Timothy to be a faithful worker, reminding himself and others of Jesus' resurrection and the new life that is to be known with him. Although Paul is shut up in prison, the gospel is free in the world. The apostle reflects on his own sufferings and encourages his younger associate in his role of leadership. Especially should he warn his people to avoid disputes over words. The verses which begin, "If we have died with him, we will also live with him," seem part of an early Christian hymn.
