FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN

During this transition time at St. Andrew’s, we have been delighted and blessed to have Rev.

Chip Robinson and his wife Cindy with us. Rev. Chip has gifted us with thought-provoking

homilies and spirit-filled eucharists, and we so appreciate his willingness to be with us for

these three weeks. This coming Sunday we will celebrate Rev. Chip’s 40 th anniversary of his

ordination to the Priesthood. Please join us for a special coffee hour after the 10:00 am

service.

The Vestry met on February 27 th on zoom. Bob Seston reported that we are on track,

financially, with regard to the 2023 budget. Other business included approval of the annual

Parochial Report, committee reports, and review of other parish concerns.

Looking ahead, we will welcome the Rev. Robin Soller, our new Priest in Charge on Sunday,

March 19 th . Mark this very special occasion on your calendar and come and greet her in

person. She will be anxious to get settled in at St. Andrew’s and get to know us.

Stay safe and well,

Patti Rau, Sr. Warden

CDC UPDATE FOR CARROLL COUNTY

The CDC places Carroll County in the LOW range for Covid community spread. Masks are not required (but are welcomed!) and the section across from the choir is reserved for those who wish to sit with others who are masked.  We will have coffee hour after the services unless Carroll County is ranked in the high range.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SAFE CHURCH MINISTER

The NH Episcopal Church has adopted a Safe Church program to prevent the exploitation and/or abuse of any adult or youth interacting with the Church.  To that end, it is required of any parishioner who has a ministerial role here at St. Andrew’s (i.e. Lay Preacher, Worship Leader, Vestry, Pastoral Care) to complete Safe Church online training every 3 years.

If you are due to complete this training, you will receive an invite from Praesidium Academy.  This invite is not a scam—please check your “junk” mail!  If you are due to complete the training, you only need to complete the following 3 modules:  (1) Safe Communities: Introduction and Theological Background, (2) Policies, Episcopal Diocese of NH, and (3) Safe Communities: Abuse & Neglect.  Pastoral Care ministers will also need to complete Safe Communities: Pastoral Relationships.

To quote Bishop Rob on the importance of this training:  “Safe Church training is not merely an exercise required by the institutional bureaucracy, mandated by our insurance providers.  Much more than that, I urge you to enter into these sessions with a contemplative attitude of openness by which we learn again how to be holy in our interactions with each other and with those, both young and old, who come seeking and expecting holiness in our congregations.”

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at: 603-323-8515.  Thank you for helping to ensure that St. Andrew’s-in-the-Valley is a safe environment for all!

Tina Quinn, Safe Church Minister

READINGS FOR SUNDAY

The Collect of the Day

Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

In our Hebrew Bible story the people are at the point of rebellion because they are without water in the wilderness. Moses decries their readiness to challenge the Lord through their lack of trust, and he asks God what is to be done. The Lord instructs Moses to strike a rock with his staff so that water will pour from it. This place he names Massah (meaning Challenge) and Mariah (meaning Dispute)
A call to worship the Lord our God, with a warning not to put God to the test.

In this lection we hear how Paul bids disciples to rejoice in the reconciliation and hope which are theirs because of the sacrifice of Christ on behalf of sinners. Through faith we have justification; we are given a right relationship with God. Now even our sufferings can lead to endurance, and this to a perseverance which strengthens our hope. Since God was willing to show such a love while we were still God's enemies because of sin, how much more we are assured that we are to be saved.

Our gospel tells the story of Jesus' meeting with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. The narrative is rich with themes. Jesus is willing to break with custom in order to talk with one who is both a woman and a foreigner. True worship of God is tied to no particular place. He himself offers living water which wells up to eternal life. The woman learns that Jesus is the expected Messiah, and later others from the town come to believe that He is the world's Savior. During an interval in the story, Jesus speaks with his disciples concerning his true food and drink, and tells them that the time of harvesting for eternal life is at hand.

LAST DAYS

Things are

changing:things are starting to

spin, snap, fly off into

the blue sleeve of the long

afternoon. Oh and ooh

come whistling out of the perished mouth

of the grass, as things

turn soft, boil back

into substance and hue. As everything

forgetting its own enchantment, whispers:

I too love oblivion why not it is full

of second chances. Now,

hiss the bright curls of the leaves. Now!

boom the muscle of the wind.

Out of the public view (and often out of mind) is our brand new propane heating system which was installed back in December, 2022.  Many thanks to the Building & Grounds Committee for all the planning and work that went into the installation.  What a blessing to have a new, efficient, and reliable heating source!   And thank you, Sammie, for sharing this picture!
