Saint Andrew's-in-the-Valley
Thursday MEMO
for June 7, 2012

This Sunday there will be two services at 8 and 10 am, with coffee hour following. We hope you'll join us for worship and fellowship.

 Readings for this Sunday: 1 Samuel 8:4-20, 11:14-15; Psalm 138;
2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1; Mark 3:20-35.

The church office hours have changed: Tuesday – Friday 9:00 am to Noon.

The Dinner Bell Cook Team Annual Breakfast Meeting will be this Saturday, June 9th at 9:00 am. Anyone who is interested in becoming a cook team is encouraged to come. This is a great outreach service to the community and depends on its volunteers.

A memorial service for Beverly Klitsch will be held at St. Andrew’s this Saturday, June 9th at 1:00 pm.

Debra was in receipt of an email from Christine Kurtz-White’s son, Chris. He passed on that while Christine is doing okay, she is not as good as when she first moved to Florida. Since her mobility has deteriorated they have moved her to a new ALF where she will get more specialized care to deal with her issues. She would always love hearing from her friends up here.
Her new address is:
5066 NE 2nd Avenue, Apt 219, Miami, FL 33137
new phone: 305-762-3804

Another way to walk the labyrinth.
Consider walking our labyrinth! And if you need further enticement, this week it is practically ablaze with spring wildflowers! Walking a labyrinth is an ancient, time-honored spiritual tool. We are incarnational beings–creatures of flesh and blood–and as such, sitting still is not the only way to pray! There's no single "right way" to walk the labyrinth, which at a gentle pace takes about 5 minutes to reach the center and five minutes to return; but one can go more slowly or fly along as our children sometimes do. What ever your pace, the labyrinth will lead you. Your only job is to put one foot in front of the other and to open you mind and heart. Our labyrinth is behind our building, back toward the woods and to the left. Salmon-colored Labyrinth trifold brochures are available on the track rack next to the office door.

 In an effort to be good stewards of our financial resources, a group of parishioners have agreed to handle the upkeep of our grounds during this summer season. Special thanks to George Plender, Jim Leavens, Brooks and Elaine South, George Rau, and David Manley for they work that has been done to date. If you would like to volunteer some time to help, please contact George Rau (367-8223).

Many people have been faithful in bringing food to take to the pantry. There is a special need for egg cartons at this time. Here are some suggestions that you may not have thought of: Pet food, Toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, antiperspirant, disposable razors, hand cream, hand sanitizers, feminine hygiene products and diapers. As always, food dry goods like flour, sugar, non-sugar cereals, oatmeal and pasta, are welcome. Canned goods like spaghetti sauce, vegetables, fruit, applesauce and juices are welcome also (please check everything for expiration dates as expired items cannot be used.) Thanks to those who are so attentive to the need. Your continued support is especially needed and appreciated.
