The Bishop is Coming!
Bishop Rob Hirschfeld will be here for his annual visitation on Sunday, October 29, 2017. He will preside and preach at both services, and offer Confirmation, Reception and the Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows to older children or adults, and Baptism for any age person who has not been baptized. Wondering if one of these is right for you? Read on!

Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments in the Episcopal Church. If you were baptized as a young child your parents and godparents made the baptismal vows to renounce evil and follow Jesus Christ for you. Confirmation is “the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit  through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” Catechism, BCP p. 860.

Reception is not a sacrament, but is for those who have already been sacramentally confirmed in the Roman Catholic, Orthodox or Evangelical Lutheran churches and would like to become an Episcopalian.  Reception into the Episcopal Church is done by the bishop. Those who were confirmed in a church other than those listed above would need to be confirmed in order to become an Episcopalian.

Reaffirmation is for those who have already been confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, and who have experienced a renewal of faith, are returning to church after a period of inactivity, or who wish to renew their Christian commitment. We all renew our baptismal vows on the major baptismal feast of the church (the Baptism of our Lord, Easter, Pentecost, and All Saints’ Sunday); reaffirmation is a more intentional and formal renewal, preceded by both an interior desire and preparation.
If you are interested in any of these, or in Baptism for yourself or your child, please contact the Interim Rector by the end of August, so that preparation may begin.

Interim Rector Vacation: Caroline will be on vacation from Sunday, August 6 – Saturday, August 19, so if you need to see her before then please be in touch.

-                   SEARCH COMMITTEE                  -
“The (parish) profile serves as the parish’s introduction to potential candidates.  At its best, the profile uses images and words to describe the personality, mission, ministry, and ministers of the parish; and denotes the passion and gifts for ministry it seeks in its next Rector.”     (2017 Search Committee Handbook, Diocese of NH)
SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE
These are some of the things we learned from the nearly fifty (yes, 50! You “heard” me right!) of us who participated in the group discussion meetings in preparation for the Parish Profile.  We confirmed that we are a warm, welcoming, and loving parish who take care of each other and those in the wider community.  We also found out that there are some things that folks would REALLY like to do differently.
We’ll talk about all of this on Sunday, July 23rd, at the coffee hour following the 10:00 o’clock service.  Please come with more questions and comments and share anything you didn’t get to say before then!

Mark 5:19 [Jesus said,]"Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you."
I was walking around the Reservoir again, enjoying the different trees, birds, and insects. I had seen some birds on a nearby trail a couple of days previous that I didn’t recognize. Coming around a curve, I noticed them again. A couple walked toward me, and I asked them about the birds. “Wild turkeys,” they explained. We chatted briefly about good hiking spots in the area, and then we went our separate ways.
Trails have helped me to step outside of myself, unencumbered by my own fears and insecurities, while at the same time, being the deepest, realest me possible. I want to capture everything about the trails, the smell of the air in the woods, the glimpse of one of God’s creatures scurrying away. Walking trails helps me realize how much God has done for me and reveals the promise of what God will do for me. I fervently pray that you can find the same for yourself.
