Abundant thanks to Val May for leading our music during the last month of Bernice's absence. We are so blessed to have her musical gifts and generosity! Thank you also to the choir for their faithful presence during all of the time Bernice was recovering from her surgery. Throughout that time they were here singing from their hearts, and providing us with joyful and beautiful music. We are fortunate indeed.

And we are happy that Bernice is back with us, and grateful for her healing! She is still working to regain strength in her arm - though that wasn't at all apparent last week - she sounded as wonderful as she always does! But over the next several weeks she will gradually work towards playing a prelude and/or postlude in addition to hymns and service music.

While I'm away... If you have any pastoral needs during my vacation (August 5-19) please call the office, and Deb will have someone get in touch with you. Outside of office hours, please contact Carol Tubman, Sr. Warden.

Many thanks to the Rev. Nancy Spencer Smith who will celebrate and preach this Sunday, and to the Rev. Ellie McLaughlin, celebrant on August 13, and Betsy Hess, preacher. We are fortunate to have TWO retired priests in our midst who are willing to cover services when needed.

-                       LOCAL STAGE                    -

Chris Boldt takes to the Stage in Shakespeare’s Henry the Fourth (and in Carolyn’s costumes)!
Chris will again play the rotund and rascally knight “Sir John Falstaff” in Advice to the Players’ production of Shakespeare’s classic history Henry the Fourth, a compilation of the “best bits” of Parts I and II. Carolyn is designing the costumes and sets (and making many new costumes with the help of Eunice and others).

Performances are at 5:30 p.m. on August 4th through 10th at the Sandwich Fairgrounds open air stage.  There will be two night performances at the Sandwich Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. on August 11th and 12th as well as a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on August 13th. -                   SEARCH COMMITTEE                  -
“The (parish) profile serves as the parish’s introduction to potential candidates.  At its best, the profile uses images and words to describe the personality, mission, ministry, and ministers of the parish; and denotes the passion and gifts for ministry it seeks in its next Rector.”
(2017 Search Committee Handbook, Diocese of NH)

-       FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY      -
THURSDAY, August 3

Acts 16:33 At the same hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and his entire family were baptized without delay.
When I was a junior in high school, I got really excited about fly-fishing. I learned to tie my own flies and made my own rod. I wanted to be a good fisherman. I wanted to prove that I could do it—but some days, I would fish for hours and catch nothing. On those bad days, I would yell at myself and throw things.
Years later, I realized why I was so mad. I was afraid that I would not be able to be a fisher of people. If I couldn’t catch fish, how could I draw people to Christ?
I wanted to be like the disciples, inspiring and encouraging people to radically alter their lives and the world. In my worry and self-disappointment, I missed what mattered most: the transformational love of God made incarnate in Jesus. Those words make my California ears recoil in postmodern rejection, but my heart sings out that they are true. Now, having become a more seasoned fisherman, I know the fish will come. All I have to do is cast the line.
MOVING FORWARD: Enjoy these last days of summer, and go fishing today! If fishing is not your thing, try fishing for a new friend.
