- FROM THE INTERIM RECTOR -
As we watch the news
unfold of all those displaced by flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and
begin to understand the scope of this disaster, our hearts are heavy and our thoughts
turn to how we can best help. In his response to the aftermath, our Presiding
Bishop, Michael Curry, reminds us that monetary donations are the most
effective at present. There are many charitable organizations that are
reputable and are responding immediately to this catastrophe, and Episcopal
Relief and Development (ERD) is one of them. If you would like to make a
donation to ERD, we will be collecting money over the next two weeks. Make your
check to St. Andrew's and put ERD in the memo line.
Regardless
of whether you can make a donation, please continue to pray for those who have
died, those who have been displaced from their homes and all who are helping
them on the ground.

SEARCH COMMITTEE -
“The
(parish) profile serves as the parish’s introduction to potential
candidates. At its best, the profile
uses images and words to describe the personality, mission, ministry, and
ministers of the parish; and denotes the passion and gifts for ministry it
seeks in its next Rector.”

A Prayer for those affected by Hurricane Harvey
Heavenly Father, in
your Word you have given us a vision of that holy City where the earth
will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover
the sea: Behold and visit, we pray, the cities of the earth devastated by
Hurricane Harvey. Sustain those displaced by the storm with food, drink, and
all other bodily necessities of life. We especially remember before you all
poor and neglected persons it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and
the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them;
that, among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, we may ever be
defended by your gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
AMEN.
The Rt. Rev. C.
Andrew Doyle, D.D.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY -
THURSDAY, August 31
Mark 14:26 When they had sung the hymn, they went
out to the Mount of Olives.
I love the image of
Jesus singing with his disciples. I wonder what the melody was like. Was it
modal? Minor? Major? Fast? How old was it? Did they clap? Was it a psalm? Did
they harmonize or sing in unison? While I wonder about these things, I am
content to know that they sang together after the meal. It sounds pleasant, a
calm moment in the midst of a tumultuous journey—Mark’s Gospel moves so fast.
For just this moment, they are singing all together.
Here at the end of our
time together, I invite you to sing with me. Our song has no melody, and you
can sing along wherever you are right now. Our song together is this: Three
deep breaths. I will do it with you, right this minute. One. Two. Three.
This breathing song is
ancient, universal, and most often goes unnoticed. But it is the song that
unites us, breaking up the indifferent pace and drawing us closer to the One
who paused to sing. Thank you all for sharing your time and singing along with
me. Amen.
MOVING FORWARD: Sing a favorite song or hymn with someone you love today.
Share your song with #ForwardDaybyDay.
