Parking for the
Custer funeral
Bruce and Carol Grace
have generously given us permission to park in the field adjacent to the church
for Peg and Lee's service. If you are able to walk from the field, please park
there, so that those with mobility restrictions may park in the church parking
lot.
Other notes for the service:
In order to help us
plan, please let Caroline know if you plan to attend (interimSAITV@gmail.com).
Thank you.
Also, please wear your
name tag so that visitors will
know that you are from St. Andrew's and can answer questions.
Prepare to be Amazed!
A group of parishioners
stayed after Morning Prayer on Wednesday to straighten up the Parish Hall and
Prince Room, and clean up the grounds around office entrance and the front of the
church. It all looks great! Many thanks to Pat Adams, Gretchen Behr-Svendsen,
Jo Anne Bickford, Mary Ellen Cade, Cathie Lewis, Grete Plender, Elaine South, Bernice Thompson, Lisa Thompson and Ray Walker for their

SEARCH COMMITTEE -
“The
(parish) profile serves as the parish’s introduction to potential
candidates. At its best, the profile
uses images and words to describe the personality, mission, ministry, and
ministers of the parish; and denotes the passion and gifts for ministry it
seeks in its next Rector.”
(2017
Search Committee Handbook, Diocese of NH)
SEARCH

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
-
As we are faced with yet
another mass shooting, this one the worst in our history, we pray for those who
lost their lives and for their loved ones. We pray for all who were wounded,
and all who witnessed the horror of people being shot around them. We pray in
thanksgiving for the first responders and those civilians who risked their own
lives to help the fallen. We pray for the shooter's family and loved ones, who
appear to be as stunned as the rest of us. And we are also called to pray for
the soul of the shooter as well, though that is much harder.
Along with the Psalmist,
we wonder, "How long, O Lord, how long?" How long will we continue to
wake up to mass shootings in our country and terrorist attacks across the
world? How long? There is no end in sight, as far as I can tell, though at
least Congress is considering banning the "bump stock" that was used
in the Las Vegas shooting. It is a step in the right direction, though a tiny
one.
But as Christians, our
response is always to pray, and this prayer from St. Francis, whom we
commemorate this week, is especially fitting
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much seek to be
consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal
life. Amen.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY -
THURSDAY, October 5th
2 Kings 18:37 Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was in
charge of the palace, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph, the
recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn and told him the words of
the Rabshakeh.
This reading from 2
Kings reminds me of the scene from the last volume in the Harry Potter
series, The Deathly Hallows. Hogwarts is besieged by the Death
Eaters, and Voldemort’s piercing voice is heard by those inside the walls. The
voice seeks to overwhelm, undermine, and offer false promises. Morale falls as
a veil of despair descends upon the resisters. In the same way, the voice of
the Rabshakeh speaking in the language of Judah seeks to undermine the people’s
confidence in their leader Hezekiah and in their God; the taunts call up the
question uttered by their ancestors in the wilderness and oft-repeated
throughout history: “Is the Lord among us or not?” (Exodus 17:7b).
When our own hopes
stand besieged, we may wonder, “Is the Lord among us or not?” Competing voices
offer us security and protection at a price. However, the witness of Hezekiah
teaches us that we are to courageously turn to the One who has called us.
MOVING FORWARD: Share a memory of God’s goodness
providing fertile ground for your hopes. Share it with us on social media by
using #ForwardDaybyDay.
