FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Gethsemane

The grass never sleeps.

Or the roses.
Nor does the lily have a secret eye that shuts until morning.

Jesus said, wait with me. But the disciples slept.

The cricket has such splendid fringe on its feet,
and it sings, have you noticed, with its whole body,
and heaven knows if it ever sleeps.

Jesus said, wait with me. And maybe the stars did, maybe
the wind wound itself into a silver tree, and didn’t move, maybe
the lake far away, where once he walked as on a
blue pavement,
lay still and waited, wild awake.

Oh the dear bodies, slumped and eye-shut, that could not
keep that vigil, how they must have wept,
so utterly human, knowing this too
must be a part of the story.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY

THURSDAY April 18, 2019

John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
In my work, I am often afforded the grace of being present with people during their death processes. There are many “blessin’s and lessons” witnessed in these sacred moments and quiet rooms.
Occasionally, the person dying may want to leave a message for loved ones. Quite often, the person wants to apologize and ask for forgiveness. I always remind families to be attentive to “the last words” because they are usually important messages.
On Maundy Thursday, Jesus offers some of his last words to his disciples: I give you a new commandment: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. Jesus’ words are for his disciples and for us. May we remember these sacred words and strive to live into them each and every day.
MOVING FORWARD: Commit an act of radical love today.

FROM Deb IN THE OFFICE
Please take care if you walk around the building as the snowmelts. There are sharp objects throughout the grounds left from the roof work. Due to the early snow cover
these were left until the melt uncovers them.
Thank you.

I will be on vacation the week of April 29th.
The office will be open Tuesday April 30th from 10am-noon
staffed by a volunteer. It will be closed the remainder of the week.
