READINGS FOR SUNDAY
Sunday, April 28th
Second Sunday of Easter
Year C
FROM THE RECTOR
Thank You!
I am grateful
to so many people this Easter week. First of all to Deb, for all she did to
produce the bulletins for Holy Week and Easter Day, while juggling all of her
usual weekly tasks (not to mention doing the same thing for All Saints!). And
to all of you who played a part in the Holy Week and Easter services, wow! The
services were beautiful, from the music to the readings to the attention to
hundreds of details. These services are all uniquely different, each telling a
part of the story leading up to the Resurrection, and they were all moving and lovely.
At the risk of inadvertently leaving someone out, I want to thank:
- Sammie and
members of the Altar Guild, for setting up for each service, for the hours of
cleaning and polishing on Saturday morning, and for magically transforming the
church from the bareness of the stripped altar to the glory of Easter.
- Gretchen, for
managing to put pansies in our planters even though there was still snow on the
ground, for ordering the palms and Easter flowers, and to all who donated them.
- Val and the Choir,
for going above and beyond the call of duty!! Val led us not only on Maundy
Thursday with her harp as planned, but also on Easter Sunday in Bunny’s absence
– and chanted or sang solo on Good Friday and at the Vigil. Such beautiful
music!
Jonathan, for
scheduling all our liturgical ministers for Holy Week.
-All the
readers, who read with such expression and meaning; especially the dramatic
readings of the Passion on Palm Sunday and Good Friday, and the readings during
the the Vigil. And Lisa and her amazing puppet!
-All the
ushers, acolytes, lectors and Eucharistic ministers.
-Cathie, for
organizing the Easter coffee hour, and to everyone who brought a delicious
dish.
I am off this
Sunday, April 29. Gretchen will lead Morning Prayer at 8:00 and Lisa and Cathie
at 10:00.
I am filled
with gratitude for you all. It truly takes a village!
Easter
blessings,
Caroline

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The Swan
Did you too
see it, drifting, all night, on the black river?
Did you see it
in the morning, rising into the silvery air,
an armful of
white blossoms,
a perfect
commotion of silk and linen as it leaned
into the
bondage of its wings; a snowbank, a bank of lilies,
biting the air
with its black beak?
Did you hear
it, fluting and whistling
a shrill dark
music, like the rain pelting the trees,
like a waterfall
knifing down
the black ledges?
And did you
see it, finally, just under the clouds –
a white cross streaming
across the sky, its feet
like black
leaves, its wings like the stretching light
of the river?
And did you feel
it, in your heart, how it pertained to everything?
And have you
too finally figured out what beauty is for?
And have you
changed your life?

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY
THURSDAY April 25, 2019
Luke 24:48 You are witnesses of these things.
The disciples have been on the ultimate emotional roller coaster. With Christ, they have witnessed many miracles, been taught how to treat each other and the world, been given power to heal and cast out demons, and have sat at Jesus’ feet to glean and marvel over his parables.
The journey, the lessons, the crown of thorns, the cross—all of this is engrained on their hearts forever. And it is understandable at this point in the story that they are filled with mixed emotions surrounding the death and resurrection of their friend and teacher.
It may seem odd that we find them hiding in a room, fearful and uncertain about their call. But Jesus comes to remind them, There is more that I require of you. There is more work ahead for you in Jerusalem and beyond. May we too be reminded of our call to discipleship and make certain that we are moving toward Jerusalem and the ends of the earth.
MOVING FORWARD: How did you get yourself back on track the last time mixed emotions stopped you from doing the right thing?
