Clean Up Day, Part 2: Thank you
to Tina and Lin, George and Patti, and Bill and Stuart Lord once again!! This week they
finished emptying the MiBox container, and either brought items inside or
loaded them into George’s truck to go to the dump. The next big task is to sort
the library books between what we will keep and what will be donated. Please
contact me if you would like to help with this task. There are 20-30 boxes to
go through.
I will be on vacation next
week,
September 6-12. If you need anything while I’m away please Deb in the office
Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, 1:00 – 4:00. In the event of a
pastoral emergency please contact our Senior Warden, Patti Rau.
Don’t forget your masks! Masks are
required at St. Andrew’s again – please wear a mask whenever you enter the
building. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Have a wonderful week!
Blessings, Caroline

The
Collect
Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with
all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own
strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
First
Lesson Proverbs
22:1-2, 8-9, 22-23
Our opening
lesson offers instruction in the characteristics of a well-ordered and godly
life drawn from wisdom literature. Both the rich and poor have been created by
God, and this awareness should lead those with power and privilege to act with
justice. The generous will be blessed,
and the unjust will be punished; the Lord is an advocate for the defenseless.
Psalm
125
An expression of confidence in the
Lord, the defender of the righteous, and a plea for Israel.
The
Second Lesson James 2:1-17
In this New Testament lesson practical
matters of ethical behavior among Christians are inextricable from any
expression of genuine faith. Believers
are counseled against showing special treatment to the rich. God has chosen to honor the poor. The rich often trespass through oppressive
conduct and, in any case, this way of treating people differently violates the
royal commandment to love one’s neighbor as one’s self. Christians are reminded to live under the
perfect law of liberty and to act with mercy.
The
Gospel Mark
7:24-37
In our gospel reading Jesus, traveling
in Gentile territory, heals the daughter of a Gentile woman and then a deaf man
with a speech impediment. The
back-and-forth between Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman may seem playful or
even harsh. It may be that through such
a conversation Jesus saw how his mission was to include all peoples, as his
followers came later to understand. The
healing of the deaf man can be recognized as a fulfillment of prophecy as the
new age of the kingdom draws near.
Updating the Prayer List
Please let Deb know if you need someone added to the prayer list. Thank you.
When I am Among the Trees
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It's simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”
