FROM THE RECTOR

IN-PERSON WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

I will be on vacation next week while I settle into my new home in Rochester. As some of you know, the house I rent was sold and I had until April 30 to move out. I was fortunate to find a house I love, and I close on the sale tomorrow. The movers come on Saturday and will unload on Monday. I will be off from Monday, April 25 – Sunday, May 1. I will be here this Sunday, and next Sunday Morning Prayer will be led by our Lay Worship Leaders.

JOHN MCGOWAN’s MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 4 at St. Andrew’s. Weather permitting, the reception will follow at his home on Great Hill Rd.

KELLY ANTONELLI’S HOUSE IN OSSIPEE BURNED DOWN RECENTLY, and she lost most of her clothes and belongings. If you would like to contribute to a gift for her, please write a check to St. Andrew’s and put her name in the memo line. Sunday, April 24 will be the last day to make a donation.

MASKS ARE NOW OPTIONAL in church except while singing, when our respiratory droplets can spread as far as 15 feet. There is an area in the back of the church on the Memorial Garden side that is reserved for those who are more comfortable being masked and physically distanced. Signs will be posted in that area. Masks are required for singing, so please bring a mask or pick one up at the door.

 As before, please, for the safety of others, plan to attend church on Zoom if you have recently traveled commercially and/or been present at large gatherings, or are not feeling well.

READINGS FOR SUNDAY
Sunday April 24, 2022
The Second Sunday of Easter

The Collect

Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

First Lesson           ACTS 5:27-32

In our lesson from the Book of Acts the apostles are brought before the council of religious authorities in Jerusalem and again commanded to cease teaching in the name of Jesus. Peter and the apostles claim a higher authority, and proclaim that the executed Jesus is their exalted Leader and Savior, offering forgiveness to Israel. The apostles and the Holy Spirit must bear witness to Jesus.

Psalm 118:14-29

A festival hymn sung in procession in praise of the Lord's salvation and deliverance from death.

The Second Lesson       Revelation 1:4-8

In this lesson John the Seer addresses seven representative churches in Asia Minor with a hymn of praise to Christ, the firstborn from the dead and now ruler of all. The resurrected Jesus frees disciples from their sins and makes them a kingdom of priests serving his God and Father, the One who is and was and is to come.

The Gospel  John 20:19-31

          Our gospel presents two appearances of the risen Lord to his disciples. The first takes place on              the very evening of the day of his resurrection. The disciples are gathered in fear, but Jesus brings           them peace, gives them their mission, and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. A week later,                         Thomas, who had been absent when Jesus first appeared and who doubted his resurrection, now              knows Jesus by his wounds and worships him as his Lord and God. Future disciples will not                  have Jesus' physical presence, but they will be blessed in their belief.

"God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. INTRODUCTION TO MINDFUL LIVING - An offering from Christi Humphrey

Introduction to Mindful Living

A six session program, Saturdays, April 23 – May 28, 2022

from 9:00 to 10:30 am

 Are you curious to learn what mindfulness is and how it can benefit you?

Are you wishing for a mindfulness refresher?

 

This six session, 90-minute class, will introduce various types of mindfulness meditations and practices to support you in incorporating mindfulness into your daily life. Each session will provide a supportive environment with time for instruction and practice and a question and response period. The program will assist you in building and deepening your own meditation practice. You will also learn informal ways to bring mindfulness into everyday life.

 Topics covered will include:

·               Mindfulness of breath and body

·           Mindfulness of emotions

·               Understanding thoughts & beliefs

·               The wise heart --  nurturing joy & compassion

·               Bringing your practice into the world

Practices will include:

·               Walking meditation & mindful movement

·               Self-compassion practices

·               Mindfulness of thought meditation

·               Offering compassion for self and others

·               Working with difficult emotions 


Facilitator --  Christianne Humphrey MDiv is a student within the Mindfulness Meditation

Teacher Training Certification program offered by Sounds True, in association withThe AwarenessTraining Institute and the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California at Berkeley. Christi has supported others in practices of the heart for over 20 years.

Food for Thought

  He breathed on them and said to them,

In the beginning God formed a human
from the dust of the ground,
and breathed into its nostrils the breath of life;
and it became a living being.

In the valley of dry bones
Ezekiel prophesied to the breath
and it breathed life into the bones.

Jesus, once dead and buried,
came to us, entombed in an upper room,
and breathed his life into us, his spirit, his love.
Christ is the Spirit and we are the body, alive now.

           Breathe in me, Breath of Love.
           Live in me, that I may be
           a cell in the living, risen Body of Christ.

           Breathe in me, Breath of Love,
           that I may love the whole Body,
           and all Creation, in the Spirit of Christ.
