FROM THE RECTOR
ANNUAL REPORTS ARE DUE ON JANUARY 15. If you wrote a report last year for the Annual Report chances are high that you also need to write one this year. Please send your report to the office sooner rather than later.
I WILL BE OFF DECEMBER 27 - JANUARY 10. During the first week I'll be in Birmingham, AL, where my entire family is gathering for a Christmas visit. During the second week my two brothers are taking my sister and me to Key West to celebrate my 70th birthday and retirement, and my sister's 60th birthday (so sweet of my brothers!). Services will be covered by our Lay Worship Leaders. January 1 will be a service of Christmas Lessons and Carols, and January 8 will be Morning Prayer with Communion from the Reserved Sacrament.
JANUARY 8 - MORNING PRAYER WITH COMMUNION FROM THE RESERVED SACRAMENT: The reserved sacrament is kept in the aumbry or the enclosed shelves hanging on the wall in the transept (the area of seating to the left of the altar). It is bread and wine that has already been consecrated and is used when someone takes Communion to a parishioner who cannot come to church. On occasion I consecrate extra wine and bread, for instance on Maundy Thursday for use on Good Friday.
On Christmas Day I consecrated extra bread and wine for our service on January 8. It will be the usual Morning Prayer service until the end, when Communion will be offered by the Lay Worship Leaders. They cannot consecrate the bread and wine (only a priest or bishop can do that), so there won't be the usual Eucharistic Prayer that includes the consecration. It is a hybrid service, designed for a deacon or lay leader to lead in the absence of a priest. We are fortunate to have four Lay Worship Leaders at St. Andrew's: Gretchen Behr-Svendsen, Ann Cady, Cathie Lewis and Lisa Thompson. Thank to Lisa for taking the lead on both January 1 and 8 while I am away.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE OUR CHRISTMAS SERVICES SO BEAUTIFUL!! The Altar Guild spent Friday morning before Christmas polishing and cleaning all the silver and brass, and Bruce and George joined them for the greening of the church. Gretchen ordered the greens and flowers, and picked up the flowers. Val played harp and she and Preston gifted us with beautiful solos on Christmas Eve. Bunny provided wonderful music as she always does, and asked Randy Ouellette to play trumpet on Christmas Eve. Thank you to all those who served as readers, Eucharistic Ministers, acolytes, torch bearer,
WE SAY GOOD BYE TO MARTI SHEDD AS PARISH ADMINISTER THIS WEEK. I am so grateful to Marti for filling in as Parish Administrator over the past months. She has served us so well, and been with us through a crucial part of the transition to a half time rector. Thank you, Marti! She and Kenny will continue to worship with us in person or on Zoom, and continue to be involved in various ways.
FRAGRANCE REMINDER: As many of you know, we have several parishioners who are sensitive to fragrances, and exposure to them can make the worship experience difficult. For the comfort of all worshipers please refrain from the use of products with fragrances when attending worship and other church activities. Thank you!
The CDC places Carroll County in the MEDIUM range for Covid community spread. Masks are not required (but are welcomed!) and the section across from the choir is reserved for those who wish to sit with others who are masked. We will have coffee hour after the service unless Carroll County is ranked in the high range.

The Beloved walks among us.
The miracle is not on one holy night, but in every created thing:
your Word takes on substance,
your love is embodied,
not a sentiment but an act,
not a wish but a creation,
your living child, begotten of love,
actual and real and forceful
and dwelling with us.
Every living being is holy.
This world brims with your goodness.
The Beloved walks among us.
Glory to you, O God,
and peace on earth.
