July 5, 2012

This Sunday, the 8th of July, the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost, there will be two services at 8 and 10 a.m., with coffee hour following. We hope you'll join us for worship and fellowship.

Readings for this Sunday: 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 9-10; Psalm 48; 2 Corinthians 12:2-10; Mark 6:1-13.

Morning Prayer every Wednesday at 9 am.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow! The necessary consents to the election of the Rev. Rob Hirschfeld have just been received from the  House of Deputies of the Episcopal Church's General Convention. Consent from House of Bishops is expected tomorrow. God willing, he will be consecrated as the tenth Bishop of New Hampshire at 11 AM on Saturday, August 4th at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord.
15 tickets have been allotted to Saint Andrew's-in-the-Valley. If you would like to attend, please call the church office (323-8515) by July 15th and provide your name and phone number, or fill out and return the purple form that was included in your bulletin last Sunday. If more people want to attend than we have tickets, there will be a drawing. If our ticket allotment is not spoken for, extras will be returned to a central "ticket bank" and redistributed to other parishes. It is very likely that carpooling will be available. This is an exciting turning point in the life of our diocese. I hope many of you will want to gather in Concord to witness and celebrate this beginning of Rob's episcopacy.

Family and friends of Jim Young gathered in our Memorial Garden at the end of last
Saturday's memorial service for the interment of ashes.

The women’s lunch bunch will meet next Wednesday, July 11th , at noon, at the Mt. View Station Restaurant in Center Ossipee. Please call Dale Appleton if you have questions.

Food for continued reflection...
Last Sunday, Tom Reinfuss and I jointly offered the following dialogue as the starting point for my homily. It seems to have resonated with many! So many of you have requested copies that I offer it here:

Installing Love                  Courtesy of “Sythesis” editor-in-chief H. King Oehmig, July 2012 edition

Tech support:              Yes, can I help you?

Customer:                    Well, after much consideration, I’ve decided to install Love. Can you help me?

Tech support:              Yes, I can help you. Are you ready to proceed?

Customer:                    Well, I’m not very technically adept, but I think I’m ready. What do I do first?

Tech support:              The first step is to open your heart. Have you located it?

Customer:                    Yes, but there are several other programs running now. Is it OK to install Love while they are running? I have PastHurt.exe, Low-Self-Esteem.exe, Doubt.exe, and Resentment.exe running right now.

Tech support:              No problem. Love will gradually erase Past-Hurt from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory but it will no longer disrupt other programs. Love will eventually override Doubt and Low-Self-Esteem with a module of its own called Faith.exe. However, you have to completely turn off Resentment.exe. It prevents Love from being properly installed.

Go to your start menu and invoke Forgiveness.exe. Do this as many times as necessary until Resentment has been completely erased.

                                    Pause

Customer:                    OK. Done! Love has started installing itself. Is that normal?

Tech support:              Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other Hearts in order to get the upgrades.

Customer:                    Oops! I have an error message already. It says, “Error – Program will not run on external components.” What should I do?

Tech support:              Don’t worry. It means that the Love program is set up to run on Internal Hearts, but has not yet been run on your heart. In non-technical terms, it means you have to value yourself as a child of God – Love yourself before you can love others. Pull down Self-Acceptance.exe; then click on the following files: Forgive-Self. txt, Realize-You’re-Forgiven.txt, Acknowledge-Your-Limitations.txt, and Ask-God-for-Help.text.

Customer:                    OK. Done.

Tech support:              Now, copy them to the “My Heart” directory. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching faulty programming. You also need to delete Verbose-Self-Criticism.txt from all directories and empty your Recycle bin to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.

Customer:                    Got it! Hey! My heart is filling up with new files. Smile.mpg is playing on my monitor, and Peace, Contentment, and Healing are copying themselves all over my heart

See you in church!
Blessings, Heidi+
