FROM THE INTERIM RECTOR
Annual Meeting Sunday!

This Sunday begins with our service at 9:00, followed by brunch (yum!) and the Annual Meeting. Vestry members are providing breakfast casseroles, and everyone else is asked to bring something to accompany them. What's your favorite breakfast dish? Bring that! Sammie is making her cheese grits, so don't miss it. We all know that St. Andrew’s puts on a fabulous brunch!

The Annual Meeting will follow, and as we did last year, we will only ask for comments and questions on the reports as a whole, not go through them one by one. So please read the reports in advance, and have your questions ready. There is a link to the Annual Report in today’s Thursday Memo. Please be sure to review the Addendum to the Minutes, which is a summary of the brainstorming we did at last year’s Annual Meeting in response to the question, “Imagine that the search is over, a new rector has been called and that we have had an incredibly successful interim ministry together.  What have we accomplished together during the interim period?”

After reviewing our responses from last year, please consider where we are now and what we want to address going forward. There will be some time during the meeting to share some of your reflections on Sunday morning.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
See you on Sunday,

Caroline

SEARCH COMMITTEE

The Search Committee is preparing questions to use in the interview process. We will also be conducting a practice interview on Skype with a clergy member chosen from this diocese. This will give us feedback on the best way to present Saint Andrew's to the candidates and a model for engaging in meaningful, focused, and productive conversation. We expect to begin interviewing prospective candidates in January, 2018. We pray for continuing openness to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the lives of those walking toward us.

Prayer for St. Andrew’s during the search process.
Everliving and everloving Lord, as we are in the midst of our challenging task to search for our new rector, we pray that you continue to lead our parish to be in one mind and spirit through the conclusion of this journey.  May we be strong in the assurance that you are guiding us and carrying us safely to calling the person you have chosen to be our rector.  In Jesus' name we pray.  Amen.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR TODAY
THURSDAY, February 1, 2018
Hebrews 12:1c Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.

A new friend shared her goal of running a 100-mile ultramarathon. “Oh, that’s fantastic,” I cooed. “How many days will it take?” Her answer was short: “One.” Fortunately, we were on the phone so she couldn’t see my jaw drop. I’m not a big fan of driving a hundred miles, much less running them. Her tenacity and desire seemed as foreign to me as people who prefer the movie to the book or carrots over cake.

Some of us are sprinting: graduating college and figuring out next steps, nursing a colicky newborn, or rehabilitating a new knee. For others, the race is a more temperate, cross-country one. We might be navigating middle age—looking back with nostalgia and ahead with anxiety. Or we notice the alarming frequency with which we forget names and stories and the contours of faces we’ve loved for decades.

Paul reminds us that we are not alone in these challenges; indeed we are surrounded by “a great cloud of witnesses”—those who have gone before us and those who run with us, who encourage, prod, and love us with steadfast perseverance.

MOVING FORWARD: Who can you ask to join you on today’s “race”? Who can you help to run with perseverance?
