FROM THE RECTOR
I
really can’t begin to tell you how happy I am to have been
called to be your Rector! As I’ve said to a number of people, it is still
sinking in. Now, four days after the announcement on Sunday (my goodness, that
was a hard secret to keep!), it seems more real, and I’m beginning to look
ahead and ponder how to live into being your Rector. But at the same time, I think
it is important for all of us to stay in this moment for a while, and savor our
excitement and joy.
Both my spiritual director and Bishop Rob have
told me they see this as a time of “consolation”. Consolation in this sense was
first described by Ignatius in his Spiritual Exercises and refers to an
interior awareness of God’s love and presence, and the sense that our lives are
moving in concert with God’s desire for us. Spiritual
consolation encourages and facilitates a deep sense of gratitude for God’s faithfulness,
mercy, and companionship in our life. When we are in consolation
Ignatius tells us we should be grateful, and, keeping in mind that this
will not last forever, we should do our best to enjoy this positive moment and
make the most of it.
So I invite you to continue to savor and enjoy
this moment in our lives and in the life of St. Andrew’s. Soon enough we will
be called to the hard work of engaging the challenges of everyday life as
individuals, families and as a parish.
I am so grateful for you all,
Caroline
P. S. Mark your calendars! Our Celebration of New Ministry will be at 7:00
p.m. on Wednesday, June 20. We could have scheduled it earlier, but wanted
to wait until many of our summer members are back in town. Details will follow.
LENTEN STUDY
If you are interested in participating in a Lenten Study this year, please meet with Caroline after each Service on Sunday.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY FOR
TODAY
Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep
with those who weep.
On the Monday after
Michael died, the Forward Movement staff gathered at the conference table as we
always do at 10 a.m. We read the meditation from Forward Day by Day.
Normally we pray for specific requests sent to our online prayer chapel from
around the world. I suggested that on this day, we say only the names from the
online list so we could move on to our own grief for our coworker. A father of two,
a husband, a brilliant designer, and a seeker who had finally found his faith
home, Michael died suddenly at the age of 46.
A colleague held up
the page of prayers, a catch in her throat. The online prayers are all
about Michael. Without warning, we were
thrust into a new place—into your embrace. This community of Forward Day by Day
readers loved and lifted us in prayer. In those early days, we held onto you
and your prayers as we wept.
It’s a long process,
this grief. A smell, a smile, a story, and we’re back on the edge of loss
again. But through this community—built around reading and sharing God’s Holy
Word, day by day—we remember that we are not alone. And that is amazing grace.
MOVING FORWARD: Pray with us today at 10 a.m., wherever
you are. Know that we are praying for you, too.
