FROM THE RECTOR

A Huge Thank You to Beverly Hammond!

Many thanks to Bev for serving as Dinner Bell Coordinator for the past year and a half +!  She has done a terrific job with the myriad duties that coordinating Dinner Bell each Sunday entails. I, along with the various Dinner Bell teams and our guests are so very grateful!

Bev has been reminding us since January that a new coordinator needs to be identified, as she will step down from her duties on June 10. So far that has not happened, and we hope that someone will soon step forward. The duties of the coordinator include the following:

1.    Schedule and organize the Annual Dinner Bell meeting in May
a.   Discussion of any Dinner Bell related items or suggestions
b.   Schedule the Cook Teams for the following year June-July
c.    Update the Cook Teams contact list
2.    Compile an Excel list of all the weekly Dinner Bell Meals from the individual Cook Teams  weekly information given to Debra Hoyt, St. Andrew’s-in-the-Valley Parish Administrator. Debra provides the written information to the Coordinator every couple of weeks.
3.    Emailing all the Dinner Bell Cook Teams the latest Dinner Bell Meals information provided by Debra.
4.    The Dinner Bell Coordinator is the contact person for any Dinner Bell Cook Teams scheduling and ensuring coverage for Dinner Bell if a Cook Team has to cancel or reschedule.
5.     The Coordinator is the contact if a Cook Team cancels due to inclement weather and to coordinate and communicate with St. Andrew’s rector or member of the St. Andrew’s vestry if Dinner Bell is cancelled. Post sign if possible on the Dinner Bell entrance door that Dinner Bell has been cancelled.
6.    The Coordinator is the contact for any questions raised by the Cook Teams and the contact to communicate and coordinate with the staff at St. Andrew’s if needed.
7.    The Coordinator prepares the Dinner Bell Report for St. Andrew’s Annual Meeting which is held in February and the report is due early in January. The Coordinator attends the  Annual Meeting as representative from Dinner Bell and highlights any thing about the report and answer any questions asked.
8.    The Coordinator has a computer and a basic knowledge of email, word, excel.
9.    The Coordinator enjoys working with people as team player; enjoys being a conduit for serving delicious home cooked meals to the community and providing a welcoming venue for people to eat and socialize.
10. The Coordinator has fun being part of a vibrant and vital community outreach program that has been serving the citizens for over 25 years!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

WORSHIP SERVICE AT OLD ORCHARD BEACH FEATURES PRESIDING BISHOP CURRY AS GUEST PREACHER

You are invited to a special worship service at the Ocean Park Temple, at Old Orchard Beach, with guest preacher, the Most Rev. Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. The service will take place Sunday, June 23, 2019 beginning at 10:30 AM. "Bishop Curry is excited to be in Maine with us to share the good news of Jesus Christ with everyone not just Episcopalians but people of all faiths and even those who are 'just looking.'" The Temple at Orchard Park is a historic, interdenominational space open only during the summer months. If you cannot be there, you may watch the sermon via live stream or view a recorded version on the Diocese of Maine website.

PLEASE CLAIM LOST AND FOUND ITEMS

The Lost and Found box in the Parish Hall is full, and quite a few jackets have been left on the coat rack. Please check to see if any of the items are yours. Items in Lost and found range from a contact case to gloves to a hairbrush to a waist pack that’s been here since last summer!

SPRING CLEANUP

SUNDAY, JUNE 9TH, the 10 am service will be followed by Spring cleanup.
Many hands make light work!

Come dressed for cleaning on Sunday, and bring your favorite yard tools or cleaning supplies.

Inside tasks:
     ·   Wash windows
     ·   Clean wood work and pews
     ·   High dusting
     ·   General pick up

Outside tasks:
     ·      Remove hay bales under the windows of the Rector’s office
     ·      Rake the rest of the leaves from the fall
     ·      Smooth residual piles from snow plowing
     ·      Clean out gardens
     ·      Pick up branches around the church yard

ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC

THE DATE FOR OUR ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC AT WHITE LAKE STATE PARK HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JUNE 23 at 10:30 AM due to a scheduling conflict for the Rector. A regular service of Holy Eucharist will also be held as usual at the church at 8 AM. Our event will be held rain or shine since the pavilion is under cover. This has proved to be a fun community event, so feel free to invite friends and family members who might not regularly join you for church. The worship service will begin at about 10:30 (not our regular 10:00), and will be followed by the picnic. You are free to stay and enjoy the park until park closing time.
When you come through the “check-in gate” just tell them you are there for Saint Andrew’s Picnic, then proceed to the pavilion. Set-up will be taking place from 9:00 on, so feel free to arrive early to drop off your food and get settled. The site is wheelchair accessible, including the bathrooms. Burgers, hotdogs, buns, and beverages will be provided, but you are invited to bring something for the food table: chips, salads, or dessert. The swimming at White Lake is excellent and good for children as well as adults; the water warms up early. Bring your kayak if you want to enjoy the whole late.
The official amount that the church will pay for pavilion use is $5 per person, BUT WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR THE EVENT. If you want to come, come! If you would like to help subsidize the cost to the church, we welcome your contribution, large or small. (Checks can be made out to St. Andrew’s with a memo: for parish picnic.)

What to bring: A food table contribution of chips, salad, or dessert, informal clothing suitable to the weather, including an extra layer in case it gets chilly

Optional: A comfortable portable chair (the pavilion has only backless picnic tables), swim suit and towel (if you want), sunscreen, kayak or swim toys
Directions from the south: The White Lake State Park entrance is on the left about a three-minute drive north from the West Ossipee intersection of Route 25 W and Rte 16. (Think McDonald’s, then head north toward Conway.)
Directions from the north: It is on the right about 3.5 miles south from Chocorua Village.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
1st and 3rd Wednesday morning at 10:15 a.m.

If you knit or crochet (or would like to learn how to) and are led to engaging in an outreach mission that provides physical and spiritual comfort to those in need, please join us on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 10:15 AM in the Prince Room.  We are a joyous group that will keep you in stitches!  The coffee and tea will be on and new members are always welcome.  If you have any questions, please call Lin Frank at 323-0402.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Ascension Day, the 40th day after Easter, when Jesus ascended into heaven,
is today, May 30.

Alleluia! Not as orphans are we left in sorrow now;

Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how:
though the cloud from sight received him,
when the forty days were o’er,
shall our hearts forget his promise,
"I am with you evermore"?

                              William Chatterton Dix (1837-1898)

(Second verse of Alleluia! Sing to Jesus [# 460 and 461,1982 Hymnal])
