Various Items of Note …
The Deacons are Returning Soon!
I’ve been in
touch with both Kevin and Midge recently, and they are both returning to us
soon. Kevin’s first Sunday with us will be June 16, and Midge’s will be June
30. I know you will join me in welcoming them both back to St. Andrew’s for the
summer and hearing what they’ve been up to over the winter!
Training for Acolytes and Eucharistic Ministers
Those of you
who serve at the altar will recall there are adaptations to make when a deacon
is also at the altar. To ensure a smooth transition we’ll hold training for
acolytes and Eucharistic ministers on
Sunday, June 16 following the 10:00 service. The Liturgy Committee met this week and
discussed a few changes we’d like to make, so please plan to attend this
training if you are in town. We’ll keep the training as brief as possible. If
you will not be able to attend this, please let me know so that we can arrange
another time to meet.
Congratulations to Sara and Jim Huckman, who are
graduating from Kingswood High School on June 15! Come celebrate with them this Sunday.
On Wednesday, June 12 we will have the Eucharist
with a litany for healing instead of Morning Prayer. All are welcome!

THE DATE FOR OUR ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC AT WHITE LAKE STATE PARK HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JUNE 23 at 10:30 AM due to a scheduling conflict for the Rector. A regular service of Holy Eucharist will also be held as usual at the church at 8 AM. Our event will be held rain or shine since the pavilion is under cover. This has proved to be a fun community event, so feel free to invite friends and family members who might not regularly join you for church. The worship service will begin at about 10:30 (not our regular 10:00), and will be followed by the picnic. You are free to stay and enjoy the park until park closing time.
When you come through the “check-in gate” just tell them you are there for Saint Andrew’s Picnic, then proceed to the pavilion. Set-up will be taking place from 9:00 on, so feel free to arrive early to drop off your food and get settled. The site is wheelchair accessible, including the bathrooms. Burgers, hotdogs, buns, and beverages will be provided, but you are invited to bring something for the food table: chips, salads, or dessert. The swimming at White Lake is excellent and good for children as well as adults; the water warms up early. Bring your kayak if you want to enjoy the whole late.
The official amount that the church will pay for pavilion use is $5 per person, BUT WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR THE EVENT. If you want to come, come! If you would like to help subsidize the cost to the church, we welcome your contribution, large or small. (Checks can be made out to St. Andrew’s with a memo: for parish picnic.)
What to bring: A food table contribution of chips, salad, or dessert, informal clothing suitable to the weather, including an extra layer in case it gets chilly
Optional: A comfortable portable chair (the pavilion has only backless picnic tables), swim suit and towel (if you want), sunscreen, kayak or swim toys
Directions from the south: The White Lake State Park entrance is on the left about a three-minute drive north from the West Ossipee intersection of Route 25 W and Rte 16. (Think McDonald’s, then head north toward Conway.)
Directions from the north: It is on the right about 3.5 miles south from Chocorua Village.
ALTAR FLOWERS
Please consider signing up to dedicate flowers until your summer ones are blooming.
When your blooms are ready to share from your garden please indicate that on a completed envelope from the Altar flower chart in the Parish Hall and turn in to the office.
We encourage flowers to be given in memory, in honor of or in thanksgiving. If you do not have garden flowers and would like flowers to be ordered ($20), please note that accordingly on the flower chart and submission envelope. Thank you

Acts 25:12 Then Festus, after he had conferred with his council, replied [to Paul], “You have appealed to the emperor; to the emperor you will go.”
Paul’s Roman citizenship comes into play once again. Technically, at this point in history every Roman citizen has the right to appeal their case to the Emperor. Yet the Roman justice system—with its tribunes and appeals to the emperor—largely exists only for the wealthiest and most important citizens. Justice and punishment for most people is settled privately (e.g. revenge) or summarily (e.g. crucifixion).
Whereas Jesus is put on trial and crucified in Jerusalem, Paul’s trial and eventual crucifixion will take place in Rome. What do you make of early Christianity’s movement from the faraway backwaters of Judea to the capital of the empire? Does Rome become the destination for Paul and others because it is the seat of worldly power or because they might have rights and benefits in Rome they wouldn’t have elsewhere? Or do they go to Rome to answer the call of the Great Commission?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Effortlessly,
Love flows from God into humans
Like a bird
Who rivers the air
Without moving her wings.
Thus we move in God’s world
One in body and soul,
Though outwardly separate in form.
As the Source strikes the note,
Humanity sings—
The Holy Spirit is our harpist,
And all strings
Which are touched in Love
Must sound.
Like a bird
Who rivers the air
Without moving her wings.
Thus we move in God’s world
One in body and soul,
Though outwardly separate in form.
As the Source strikes the note,
Humanity sings—
The Holy Spirit is our harpist,
And all strings
Which are touched in Love
Must sound.
