FROM THE RECTOR

A huge thank you to our clean up volunteers on Sunday! Everything looks wonderful after all your hard work. The wood in the church is gleaming, the light fixtures in the parish hall are glowing and the grounds look beautiful. Be sure to notice the new flowers under the sign on the front lawn, an idea that was born on Sunday and came to fruition on Monday! So many of you stayed to work – and it really shows. It’s amazing how much we can accomplish in a relatively short period of time.

At the risk of leaving someone out, thank you to George and Patti, Bruce and Claudia, David M., Ray, Cathie, Gretchen, Lisa, Sammie, Kit and Suzanne, Lin, Tina, Dale, Dave A., Chris B., Tom, Bunny

ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC

Parish Picnic
JUNE 23 at 10:30 AM
A regular service of Holy Eucharist will also be held as usual at the church at 8 AM. Our event will be held rain or shine since the pavilion is under cover. This has proved to be a fun community event, so feel free to invite friends and family members who might not regularly join you for church. The worship service will begin at about 10:30 (not our regular 10:00), and will be followed by the picnic. You are free to stay and enjoy the park until park closing time.
When you come through the “check-in gate” just tell them you are there for Saint Andrew’s Picnic, then proceed to the pavilion. Set-up will be taking place from 9:00 on, so feel free to arrive early to drop off your food and get settled. The site is wheelchair accessible, including the bathrooms. Burgers, hotdogs, buns, and beverages will be provided, but you are invited to bring something for the food table: chips, salads, or dessert. The swimming at White Lake is excellent and good for children as well as adults; the water warms up early. Bring your kayak if you want to enjoy the whole late.
The official amount that the church will pay for pavilion use is $5 per person, BUT WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR THE EVENT. If you want to come, come! If you would like to help subsidize the cost to the church, we welcome your contribution, large or small. (Checks can be made out to St. Andrew’s with a memo: for parish picnic.)

What to bring: A food table contribution of chips, salad, or dessert, informal clothing suitable to the weather, including an extra layer in case it gets chilly

Optional: A comfortable portable chair (the pavilion has only backless picnic tables), swim suit and towel (if you want), sunscreen, kayak or swim toys
Directions from the south: The White Lake State Park entrance is on the left about a three-minute drive north from the West Ossipee intersection of Route 25 W and Rte 16. (Think McDonald’s, then head north toward Conway.)
Directions from the north: It is on the right about 3.5 miles south from Chocorua Village.

GRATITUDE
Dear St. Andrew’s Family,
Ron and I are so thankful for all of the ways St. Andrew's-in-the Valley people helped us after I fell and hurt my right leg. Because I couldn't bend that knee I couldn’t drive Ron back and forth to Sanford, Maine for radiation treatments, and you helped with 12 of 28 rides for Ron. You also delivered suppers to our door and ran errands for us. Your telephone calls saying that you cared, were praying and just to say hi were most welcome. You also came up with other ways to help and organizations in the valley that offered services.
We could not have made it through without your generosity of time and spirit. We are truly blessed, and so grateful to you all!
Best Regards,
Ron and Bunny Thompson

ALTAR FLOWERS

Please consider signing up to dedicate flowers until your summer ones are blooming.
When your blooms are ready to share from your garden please indicate that on a completed envelope from the Altar flower chart in the Parish Hall and turn in to the office.
We encourage flowers to be given in memory, in honor of or in thanksgiving. If you do not have garden flowers and would like flowers to be ordered ($20), please note that accordingly on the flower chart and submission envelope.
If you would like to arrange your own flowers, vases are available in the kitchen under the counter between the refrigerator and the small sink. Thank you.
Thank you

2 Corinthians 12:8-9a Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”
Paul writes about the thorn in his flesh, which reminds him of his human frailty—but we still aren’t sure what he is talking about. Whatever this “thorn” is, Paul prays to the Lord for it to be taken away, but the answer he wants doesn’t come. God answers Paul’s request the same way God answers so many of our prayers about the burdens we carry: God does not remove the thorn but fortifies Paul (and us) with the strength to bear it.
Hard, awful things happen in this broken world. Nothing we can do will change that fact. Bad things happen, and they will happen to good people we love, or to us. “My grace is sufficient for you” means that we find strength in our faith. God’s sufficient grace and weakness-perfecting power means grace teaches us to see a new picture. Out of pain, suffering, crucifixion, and death comes wonder, glory, and resurrection.
MOVING FORWARD: How has God’s strength helped you bear a burden with grace?
