FROM THE RECTOR

I had hip surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn labrum, and will be on crutches for the next several weeks. I’m recovering well, but am unable to drive for now. Vestry members have been kind enough to offer to drive me to church on Sunday. Thank you for all your help and good wishes!

I will be at a CREDO conference May 17-24, which is an opportunity to assess and plan for clergy wellness in multiple areas: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and financial health. I attended this conference about 15 years ago and it was a great experience! I look forward to participating again.

Chip Robinson will fill in for me on Sunday, May 22 at both the 8:00 and the 10:00 services.

MASKS ARE NOW REQUIRED in church again, as the Covid numbers have been on the rise and we know several people who have been infected. I think we can expect to go back and forth between wearing masks and not as the numbers rise and fall in the foreseeable future.

As before, please, for the safety of others, plan to attend church on Zoom if you have recently traveled commercially and/or been present at large gatherings, or are not feeling well.

JOHN MCGOWAN’S MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 4 at St. Andrew’s, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall and on the grounds, weather permitting.

LINK TO FORWARD DAY BY DAY For some unknown reason we didn’t receive this quarter’s copies of Forward Day by Day. For those of you who are missing it, it is available online at this link: https://prayer.forwardmovement.org/fdd/

If you would like to receive the daily reflection via email, scroll to the bottom of the website page and click on the “Subscribe” button.

If you’re a Facebook user it’s also available there. Search for Forward Day by Day and follow the page. We hope to receive next quarter’s booklet on time!

The Sixth Sunday of Easter
The Collect
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
First Reading                        Acts 16:9-15
In this reading from the story of the early church Paul and his companions are called by a vision to journey to Macedonia and the city of Philippi, where a merchant named Lydia responds to the gospel and is baptized, together with her household. She offers her home to the travelers, and becomes an important supporter of their missionary endeavor
The whole of creation and all peoples join together in praise of the Lord.
The Second Reading     Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5
In this reading John the Seer presents a vision of the new Jerusalem, the paradise of God. The city has no need of a template or of a sun or moon, for it is enlightened by the very glory of God and the lamp of the Lamb, who is Jesus. It will be a place of purity and abundance for the saints. As in the Garden of Eden, here will be found the river and the tree of life.

The Gospel  John 14:23-29

Our Gospel tells of Jesus' promise to his disciples of the coming of the Holy spirit. Although Jesus          will no longer be present physically, those who continue in his love will know his abiding                     presence, together with that of the Father. The Holy Spirit will be their counselor and bring Jesus'          own words to mind. Jesus shares these things with his followers before they take place, and he             gives them his peace.

UKRAINE PRAYER

"God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

           What We Need is Here

Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear
in the ancient faith: what we need
is here. And we pray, not
for new earth or heaven, but to be
quiet in heart, and in eye,
clear. What we need is here.
