FROM THE RECTOR
Neighbor to Neighbor - Can You Help?

Saturday, November 3 is the fall work day for Neighbor to Neighbor, a program which connects volunteers and resources with people who need help to make their homes safe, warm, and dry. Every year this is a big endeavor where we provide free repairs and weatherization to people of the Mount Washington Valley who need it. This can be vitally important as we prepare for New England's harsh winter.

Neighbor to Neighbor is organized by the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in North Conway and is open to anyone in communities as far south as Tamworth and Ossipee. We are helping to spread the word to those who may be in need of such help through Dinner Bell and the Community Food Pantry.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a group of St. Andrew’s members also volunteer to help?! If you are interested, please let me know, and register by calling the Church of the Nativity at 356-7827 or going to: https://mwvneighbor.wixsite.com/weekend. What better way to minister to those in our communities who are less fortunate than we?!

Praying
It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY
Thursday, September 20
John 12:31-32 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.

I’m a part of a Christian arts troupe called Carnival de Resistance. For one month each year, thirty artist/activists live together in a sustainable eco-village. We perform liturgical theater productions under a circus big top, animating the voices of ancient prophets and setting them in our current contexts. Death is a central theme in our carnival shows, particularly the notion that death is a natural and essential part of life.

In one of our songs, we sing: “All that rots feeds all that grows.” New trees grow out of dead material on the forest floor. Economic and political forces masquerade as forces of death without resurrection—death that ends in darkness and not new life. In defiance, my friends and I seek to be instructed by the natural world in its demonstration of death’s part in the dance between creation and Creator.

MOVING FORWARD: Has the death of something in your life allowed a new thing to grow?

FROM Deb IN THE OFFICE
OFFICE ATTIC CLEANOUT
Friday, October 19th
It is my plan to tackle the office attic with the goals of
1. Bringing down the many boxes of old files for a shredding company.
2. Removing the carpet rolls from the attic to be stored elsewhere.
3. Organizing current file boxes (7 years) along with extra supplies from the office.

It is a very small area of storage for office files that has become dangerously crowded.
I am hoping for volunteers who will be able to lift boxes and carpet.
It should be much cooler up there by October 19th (I hope!)

Please let me know if you will be able to help.
Thank you
Deb
