FROM THE RECTOR
Did
you know we have a budding videographer in our midst?
Tim Huckman has been at it again! Remember last spring he made a video of the
roof with his dad, Tom, narrating the issues we had with the roof? Well, last
Sunday he made two more videos for us – one of the progress on the roof and one
of the clean up work that was done after the tree work was completed. Most of
that work was on the Prince Room side of our building, where Tom, Dave Adams,
Bob Mills, Kevin Mort George Rau, and Bob Seston finished cleaning up the
debris from the tree work, pulled stumps, leveled the ground, and cleaned up
the woods. Many thanks to all of them for their hard work! If you haven’t been
able to see that area in person, Tim’s video gives you a great bird’s eye view.
Tim’s video of the roof shows the progress that’s
been made on installing the new roof, as well as all the peaks and valleys and
different pitches of the roof. The video shows aspects that are not visible
from the ground, making the complexity of installing our new roof even more
apparent. Great job, Tim, and thank you! You gave us views most of us have
never seen before!
Roof
Progress Update: The weather continues to thwart
efforts to finish the roofing job, so it is moving slowly. New decking needed
to be installed over the old decking on the back of the parish hall, and each
additional step like this also adds to the time required for the job.
Funding update: As of today we have received 51
pledges totaling $50,915.00 for the Raise the Roof campaign! Congratulations,
members of St. Andrew’s, and many, many thanks for making this possible!
In addition, we are thrilled to have received
$10,000 from the Tamworth Foundation to help us complete this project.
Last but certainly not least, the quilt is coming
along beautifully! If you haven’t stopped by the Prince Room to see it, be sure
to do that on Sunday. Raffle tickets will go on sale soon.
Good news abounds! Come celebrate our successful
Raise the Roof campaign this Sunday. There will be one service at 9:00 a.m. followed
by a brunch. Bring your favorite brunch item to share.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY
Thursday, September 20
I’m a part of a Christian arts troupe called Carnival de Resistance. For one month each year, thirty artist/activists live together in a sustainable eco-village. We perform liturgical theater productions under a circus big top, animating the voices of ancient prophets and setting them in our current contexts. Death is a central theme in our carnival shows, particularly the notion that death is a natural and essential part of life.
In one of our songs, we sing: “All that rots feeds all that grows.” New trees grow out of dead material on the forest floor. Economic and political forces masquerade as forces of death without resurrection—death that ends in darkness and not new life. In defiance, my friends and I seek to be instructed by the natural world in its demonstration of death’s part in the dance between creation and Creator.
MOVING FORWARD: Has the death of something in your life allowed a new thing to grow?
