FROM THE RECTOR
Dear St. Andrew's Family,

It is hard to believe that Holy Week is upon us, isn’t it? This Sunday is Palm Sunday! Our shipment of palms arrived last week (the company would not issue refunds) and the palms are staying fresh in the refrigerator. They will be blessed during the Palm Sunday service as always, but there can be no procession. Rather than try to find a safe way to distribute them during the pandemic, I will save them and we will find a way to celebrate with them when we are able to gather in person again. Thank you to Gretchen for preparing them as always.
Holy Week and Easter services will all be online next week. I encourage you to join us for Compline either tonight or next week for a “practice run” if you haven’t connected online yet. Services will continue to be broadcast via both Facebook Live and Zoom. I’ve heard from some of you that you are not able to connect online, but this does not mean that you cannot participate. There is a phone number to call that will connect you to the audio portion of a Zoom call, and you will be able to hear the entire service. If you have felt discouraged or frustrated by the need to use technology you’ve never used before, please call in using the number provided. If you are still having difficulty, email me and I will connect you to someone who will try to help.
Coffee hour by Zoom will immediately follow services on Palm Sunday and Easter.

Online Worship Schedule for Holy Week

Palm Sunday Blessing of the Palms and Liturgy of the Word at 9:00 am

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:30 pm – Compline

Wednesday at 9:00 am - Morning Prayer

Maundy Thursday at 7:00 pm

Good Friday at 7:00 pm

The Great Vigil of Easter at 8:00 pm on Saturday
Easter Day at 10:00 am

Because of “Zoombombing” (when someone crashes a Zoom meeting and posts hate speech or something equally disturbing) I am not publishing the Zoom log-in information. It is the same link I’ve been using for our mid-week services, and I will send it in an email again. If you do not receive it please email me and I’ll send it to you directly.

You may watch any of the services on Facebook live at:

Bulletins for the Triduum (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Great Vigil) and for Easter will be available for download next week.

If you would prefer printed bulletins for the Triduum, please let me know immediately so that I’ll know how many copies to make. Bulletins will be placed in your mailbox in the Parish Hall if requested, and will be available for pick up on Wednesday afternoon 1:00 – 3:00.

Once again, thank you for continuing to honor your pledges during this time while we cannot gather in the church.

I hope to “see” you on Palm Sunday!

May God bless you,

Caroline

LENTEN RESOURCES

Lent Madness 2020 The Tenth Annual Saintly Smackdown!
CONTINUE to enjoy participating in Lent Madness.
Here is the bracket as of today! (click on the photo for a larger view)

Here’s how to participate: on the weekdays of Lent, information is posted at www.lentmadness.org about two different saints. Each pairing remains open for 24 hours as participants read about and then vote to determine which saint moves on to the next round. Sixteen saints make it to the Round of the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Round of the Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. Click on the link above to sign up for a daily email with information about each saint.

TIPS FOR AVOIDING THE FLU OR CORONAVIRUS

Wash your hands frequently.

Sanitize hands before and after contact with others.

It’s not too late to get your flu shot. While our primary concern is the spread of COVID-19, this is also a bad flu season. If people have not gotten a flu vaccine, there’s still time before the expected second wave of seasonal flu infections.

Additional information and links may be found at the Episcopal Church of NH website at https://www.nhepiscopal.org/covid19 and on the Episcopal Relief & Development web page, “Faith-Based Response to Epidemics.”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Eucharist

Eucharist comes in many forms.
Yesterday at dawn I stepped
onto the round, white stones
of Lake Michigan’s vast shore;
I felt the deepest communion
with all that exists, especially
with the One who woos my heart.
I thought of my friend, Janet,
holding out her open hands at Mass
to receive the Gift she holds dear.
Today, as the retreat house bell
calls the women to come receive,

I stand before the full-bodied,
incandescent maple tree, sunshine
illuminating its golden leaves
like a host held high in the blue sky.
I stand in creation’s communion line,
bow my head, open my heart,
and receive Eucharist once again.
