Spring comes to St. Andrew's!

FROM THE RECTOR
Dear St. Andrew's Family,

On this chilly, rainy Thursday afternoon it does not feel to me as though Easter is just days away. The pandemic and it’s impact on the world feels much more fitting for Lent and Holy Week. But Easter will come on Sunday regardless of all that is going on, and regardless of how I feel. And we will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, even though we can’t gather together physically, and even though we can’t receive the Eucharist. But even as I write this, I’m looking ahead to the day that we can gather again at St. Andrew’s. And that is when I will feel like Easter has arrived. We don’t know when that will be – how many weeks or months from now. But we know the day will come! So I invite you to join me for the liturgies this evening and tomorrow and Saturday evenings, and again on Sunday morning. We will once again walk with Jesus on his way to the cross, we will mourn his death, and on Sunday we will celebrate his resurrection in the best way we can, knowing that an even greater feast awaits us one day.

TIPS FOR AVOIDING THE FLU OR CORONAVIRUS

Wash your hands frequently.

Sanitize hands before and after contact with others.

It’s not too late to get your flu shot. While our primary concern is the spread of COVID-19, this is also a bad flu season. If people have not gotten a flu vaccine, there’s still time before the expected second wave of seasonal flu infections.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Hymn 170-To Mock your reign, O dearest Lord

1   To mock your reign, O dearest Lord,
          they made a crown of thorns;
     set you with taunts along that road
          from which no one returns.
     They did not know, as we do now,
          that glorious is your crown;
     that thorns would flower upon your brow,
          your sorrows heal our own.

2   In mock acclaim, O gracious Lord,
          they snatched a purple cloak,
     your passion turned, for all they cared,
          into a soldier’s joke.
     They did not know, as we do now,
          that though we merit blame
     you will your robe of mercy throw
          around our naked shame.

3   A sceptered reed, O patient Lord,
          they thrust into your hand,
     and acted out their grim charade
          to its appointed end.
     They did not know, as we do now,
          though empires rise and fall,
     your Kingdom shall not cease to grow
          till love embraces all.
