FROM THE RECTOR

I will be on vacation next week to attend my niece’s High School graduation in Maryland. I’m looking forward to seeing my sister and her girls, and can’t believe Grace is graduating! She’s decided to attend Sewanee (The University of the South) next year and is so excited. I’ll be away Tuesday – Sunday, June 10. In my absence next Sunday our Lay Worship Leaders will lead Morning Prayer at 8:00 and 10:00. If you have a pastoral emergency during this time, please contact Carol Tubman at cctubman@msn.com or 651-8230.

In general, but especially important while Deb is away, the best way to contact me is through email at RectorSAITV@gmail.com. I check my email throughout the day, and at least once in the evening and on days off. Though my cell phone (603-553-9254) is usually somewhere nearby during the day, once I’m at home it usually stays in my purse, and I often don’t hear it ring. So calling my cell phone or texting me in the evening is unreliable. If you have an emergency and need to speak with me after hours my home phone is the best way to reach me (323-6193). I would appreciate not receiving calls in the evening or on days off except in an emergency. What qualifies as an emergency? Death, sudden illness, accident, or anything else that truly can’t wait until I’m back in the office. My official day off is Friday and I’m pretty good about really being off on that day. I also try to take Saturday off, but most always spend a good deal of time on my sermon and otherwise preparing for Sunday morning.

But just so you know, when the weather is nice I’m often outside until near dusk with my noisy new toy… (As I have two fields to mow, it takes a while!)

THE JAMMING DIVAS
The Jamming Divas are at it again!
Jammin’ Divas’ jams and jellies were a big hit last year, and Carol and Chris are gearing up to make more, all to benefit St. Andrew’s outreach efforts! Joyce Carter has offered to sell their goodies at the Farmer’s Market as soon as they have new batches of jam ready.

They would appreciate your help too! What can you do? Donate to the cause:

· Fruit- fresh if possible. Strawberry season is coming right up, followed by raspberries, rhubarb and then blueberries. Peaches are usually ready in August. If you are going to pick any of these local crops, please consider donating an extra pint or two to the Divas. And even better, if you have time, wash, hull and freeze them and pop them in a ziplock bag.
· 8 or 4 ounce canning jars.
· Sugar
· Powdered pectin

Thank you!!!

and Just your luck!  All current stock is $5.00 a jar for pickles, apple butter, miscellaneous jams and jelly ( lemon, Blueberry, strawberry) $4.00 a jar for zucchini Relish, $2.00 for pepper jelly.  We have a brand new batch of Orange Marmalade as well for $6.00.  Please call Carol @ 651-8230 or Chris @ 452-4049 for more info!  First come, first served.

FROM THE RECTOR

What a great parish meeting we had last Sunday about the need for a new roof! Thank you to all who attended, asked questions, and offered input. And thank you to Tom Huckman for his presentation and for answering our questions, and to Sally DeGroot for all the work she’s done meeting with roofers and getting bids. The Vestry met on Monday night, and agreed to accept the bid from Mike Lord pending receipt of his updated bid including the verbal assurances he has given us.  We will have an electronic vote at that time, and then proceed with an application for funds through the Diocesan Advance Fund and raising money through grants and pledges. We are told that it will take 60-90 days to receive a loan from the Advance Fund, so anticipate work on the roof beginning in the fall if all goes as expected.

Throughout the week I’ve continued to reflect on the Royal Wedding. I am not usually so captivated by this kind of event, and I think the difference for me is our Presiding Bishop’s sermon and the responses that followed. I have had huge respect and admiration for him since first hearing him preach in 1999 when I was in seminary. I was delighted when he was elected Bishop of North Carolina and then Presiding Bishop. He is so well able to preach the Good News in a way that speaks to our souls.  His style is not what we’re used to in the Episcopal Church (nor what those in the Church of England expected!) yet his message resonates deep within me. His wedding sermon was a Pentecost message of the power of the Holy Spirit to unite us in love.

If you don't believe me, just stop and imagine. Think and imagine a world where love is the way.

Imagine our homes and families where love is the way. Imagine neighborhoods and communities where love is the way.

Imagine governments and nations where love is the way. Imagine business and commerce where this love is the way.

Imagine this tired old world where love is the way. When love is the way - unselfish, sacrificial, redemptive.

IMAGINE

 FOOD FOR THOUGHT

(Continued from The Most Rev. Michael Curry’s sermon above)

When love is the way, then no child will go to bed hungry in this world ever again.

When love is the way, we will let justice roll down like a mighty stream and righteousness like an ever-flowing brook.

When love is the way, poverty will become history. When love is the way, the earth will be a sanctuary.

When love is the way, we will lay down our swords and shields, down by the riverside, to study war no more.

When love is the way, there's plenty good room - plenty good room - for all of God's children.

"Because when love is the way, we actually treat each other, well... like we are actually family.

IMAGINE.

Matthew 13:29-30 But [the master] replied, “No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”

In this passage, we encounter the ambiguous image of weeds and wheat bound up with one another, the root systems inextricably intertwined.

This is a perfect image for our ambiguous selves and world. The older I get, the less black and white things become. I’ve discovered that good people can enable or undertake immoral actions, that so-called “misbehavers” can open up space for the rest of us to breathe more easily. And slowly—very slowly—I am also learning the wisdom of the master’s advice: Sometimes it is best to wait a season or two before passing judgment.

MOVING FORWARD: Consider your own field of weeds and wheat, their intertwined roots, and the ways they share and compete for resources. What does it mean to allow both to grow?
